Burn AVI movies to DVD discs?! - Click HERE for Original Thread

LudeDude19
how the hell do i do it? i've used www.videohelp.com but nothing seems to work?! anyone have any surefire ways that work?
i'll download anything, i just need to get this to work! damn it!

Mustard
do you want to burn them so they are playable ona DVD player, or for storage sake.

Either way, here's the deal
If you're lucky, your DVD player can play .avi files, in which case you would just burn a data DVD disc, with like Nero or something.

it sounds like you tryed that already though, so that won't do... besides, a lot of AVI files are using the DivX codec, which most DVd players don't recognize, (but a standalone DivX player sure will)

So you're gonna have to re-encode the file into a .VOB form.
This is the file type of DVD movies.
you can find a few converter programs online to do this, but honestly i havn't found a program that does it REALLY well yet. At least, not one i'm willing to pay for.

Your other option is to Burn VCD's (or SVCD's which are slightly better resolution) which most DVD players will play.
They are Cd's not DVD's so you are limited to space, but they work quite decently with AVI files, i've found.
For example, i download the TopGear episodes, and burn them to VCD and watch on the DVD player.
It works quite well, and i'd certainly suggest you give it a shot, if nothing else.

Mustard sums it up nicely, there is no 1 step, easy way to do this. More info here.

Personaly, I play stuff off of my laptop and plug that into the TV.

Anonymoose
Phillips DVP642 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...p;s=electronics) will play Div-X avi's.

Qoo
lots of new DVD player from philips play avi.
my shitty (superstore)brough $99 play it too. (that's why I brough it)

to make DVD, you can have encoder program, burning program, codec.
but you can get them all with Nero Ultra.
for codec...if your computer is able to play the avi, it is fine.
or for a complete set of codec. get this
K-lite mega codec pack with Classic media player

now if it is an rmvb, some encoder can change it some cannot.

Ya, screw the ecndoging, bunch of pain in the ass, just buy a DVD player that plays DivX, Xvid and all that other cool stuff.

A-computers has one for like $90.

LudeDude19
i managed to download a insanely easy wicked nero burning version thingy....it does everything you need in like 2 clicks of the mouse

scooby_dooby
ya but hows the quality?

nero on-the-fly encoder has always sucked hard, but maybe they have finally made it better.

link?

LudeDude19
scooby...if u want the program..i could probably send it to you via msn

scooby_dooby
it's all good, just wondering what program you're referring too?

Nero Burning Rom 6? or is it something else?

How's the quality? Do you notice any wierd pulsing or artifacting? Nero 5.5 did that to my movies...tehy would pulse in a really wieerd way.

LudeDude19
nah man...it works good and you can automatically cut down the quality so it fits on a normal dvd to use in ur house dvd player

the program is called "NeroVision Express 2 SE"
