finally got my hand on a supra - Click HERE for Original Thread

accordsir
good evening guys..i just bought a supra 86.5 turbo (swap 7m-gte engine + inside and so on)here it is.the picture are little bit big ( the car looks better in perso) but i will made some new one this week..

http://www.netcola.com/supra/

i had a accord h22 turbo and i decide it was time to make place for a new project..the buddy needs attention and i will strip the car and fix everything on the way and repaint it black..i will like to find a inside black and grey turbo to swap the red one...but i will begin by fixing all the little thing than i will do the body..

i won t drive the car for many months to do the rebuild of the car and i will be asking question after done some research on my side.i want to know everything of this car..i spend already alot of time to find all web page about the supra MKIII...the other good thing is i have the toyota mecanic book with it..i will spend days to read that and fix my car..

nice to meet you guys...

Supra_devil
well i'm the supra club monkey, i work for free, lol. i have found much useful info on Celicasupra.com for the 7mgte, look in the swaps section, many knowledgeable people. Supraforums.com has lots of info if you can sort through it all, the site has A LOT of stuff. and theres always the edmonton supra club site too.

i see hardpiped IC piping and nice brakes. i'm not a fan of the wing, stock or naked imo.

accordsir
this spoiler will be trough out when i will find a 87 turbo spoiler for sure...i will look to those site thanks.

Supra_devil
i think Heavyearly87T may have a factory spoiler still, should ask him.

Trowa
From what I remember that car needed lots of work so good luck man

Andriy

accordsir
i know trowa there is alot of work to be done to this car.i will post the things i will have to fix before to do the body and i will like to know someone know somebuddy who had rebuild a full car..i will like to have some advise about the supra.

Supra_devil
what kind of advice or info do you need? i have been reading about these cars for about 5 years, if i don't know it off hand i ussually know who/where to ask. and i have tons of time lately, being unemployed.

in fact its 10 now and i just finally got out of bed.

accordsir
lucky bastard...i will finish my list of good things and bad things and i will have to find many parts..mosly i will go to pick them up to the junck yard..i will post my list and i have 11 months to bring that car like when he when out of the factory..thats my gold.i bought it because there was some work to do..i like working on car and spend times to talk and work on them...or your help will be great full ( my speeling won t be perfect . english is my second language or guy be patient.)

accordsir
here is the list of things i will need to fix the car before to strip it and paint it.

Right door open to wide/don t stop/it could be the inner stabilizer
Find a right tail light 86.5 to 88
find some original fog light and instal it
the washer nozle fro the front light doesn t spray
Driver door lock cylinder doesn t work
Passenger door elec lock lever doesn t work
Need new hood damper stay (they closed slowly until you received the hood on the head..lolololol
Need new back door damper stay
Find the code error for the engine dash light
Find the reason why the brake light in the dash is on all the time
Find a Back door trim board
Find the part i will need to installe the A/C and the power steering
Fix the turbo and the oil guage
made a new set of intercooler piping 2.5" and add a blow of valve

thats what i have to do before to strip the car Engine/all interior/all outside

after that i will send the hole car to metal and repair the dent in the front fender driver.than the car will be ready for a good primer and black paint...and so on.

than i will need those parts to finish the car and it will be top noch

Front windshield / lower moulding/joint cover/ side moulding
Roof drip moulding
All the ouside moulding swap to the plastic one insted to the metal one or i maw just weld a metal piece all around and make it smooth.

than the car will be number one..i have 11 months to do that and find all the parts i need.if you guys have something i m looking for let me know i may be interested to buy it if the price is right.I m sure i can find most of the parts at a local junk yard.

if one has a black/grey turbo interior i will buy it for sure.I will be interested to the turbo suspension ETMS i think they call it.All help will be appreciate...everything else is in good condition.i will have a great fun to do it and i will made a follow up on this every weeks or so.

newaccorddriver
im disappointed in you accordsir... atleast you got a new car, and fast too. although its not an accord... either way im a supra fan(mkiv only nothing else, well maybe a mkiii but thats it)

Trowa

some advice, u will NOT find most parts in teh junk yard cause these cars are rearly found in junk yards....or if they do little is salvagable, Black Gold and HonDaToy have some parts but their prices are outrageous.
Forget about TEMS, not worth keeping IMHO, just get a set of Eibach and Koni's or Bilstiens and u'll be good to go, or if u want to really go all out get some coilovers.
As for interior it might be cheaper for you to dye ur red one black because it will cost you too much to source out all the parts to get and original grey one....
i think that's it for now =P lol hope this helps, and this is what i think and you can disagree so it's all good LOL

I got a question though......y didn't you buy the car Earl is selling and this one instead?

buddy i don tunderstand what is your message in your last post..my english is not the best around here...i like project car men if it s because im rebuilding a other car...i was tired of the accord because my project was finish and i have to have something to work in it...i like accord but i wanted to try a propulsion...and this car will be a good looking car when i will have done with it.this time i will try to stay away to spend to much money like my accord...supra are realy nice car and i will bring this 86.5 to his best.

men all advise i can get will be helpfull ..you are saying to paint the inside in black..i think for the dash and all plastic it s possible but what about the seats and all the doors cloth...to change the cloth will be really expensive ..no....the suspension on the car now is -eibach pro lowering springs/-tokico blue shocks...what do you think of that ???

and i trade my car for the supra + $$$$ for my car...and i was looking for a new project...the engine look like to be in really good shape ( metal gasket 3000 km ago ) brake are in good condition and suspension it s good..just a litle bit of body work and couple things..a new project..

The thing is I saw that car before cause i sold that guy some interior parts...so yeah...it's definately a project car
I saw some guy in Calgary dye his blue interior black, i can get his email for you and you can ask him more, he said it was pretty cheap and it looked ok, eibachs and tokico blues are ok, the blues are not the best of course but they get the job done =P

thats alot of problems that need to be fixed on the supra. well for starters, the brake lights probably on because your low on brake fluid.

for the engine trouble code you can probably buy and return a code reader from CDN tire.

as for the other stuff its all in the scrap yard. theres probably a few(not many) supras in the scrap yard just waiting to be salvaged. good luck with the restoration project:)

accordsir
thats true the car need to be looking after it and i will do it.this one has no rust at all..thats why i pick it...2 little spot...it not a big chalenge..it s just time consuming and i m not lazy ..i will search on the internet and i will ask question to people here on the site...thanks everybuddy..if someone has parts i m looking for let me know.

the code reader is a wire 3cm long.....
and the brake light IMO is on because the break light seals are bad and are leaking, or cause one of ur tailights is broken and moisture is getting into there.

Andriy

accordsir
for the engine code i will have to look at it and i will use the paper clip...no need of buying something for that..

the left brake light has a small hole but i thinks this because of the humidity i have the light in the dash like you are saying trowa and i say on the right one some humidity inside to and it shouldn t have any..i m going in vacation for 2 weeks and when i will be back i will begin to fix things...and i will enjoye it.

I have found this article on the net and I really like it but I will like to know if someone here knows other article like this or know someone who his doing a lot of body work. I will like to talk to someone like this. I don t want to go to see the paint shop guys. I already done it and they are welling to answer question but I want to do it myself. I know it s a lot of work but I have done some car prep and it was good. In addition, with this article I found I should be really in the right way to do it. However, I still have question for today what are the best product to use.

There is so much stuff on the market to use, by the way, I have a paint shop at my disposition, and all tools for strip the car..This the biggest rebuild I will have ever done or I will prepare myself and do it right the first time..thanks for all the help guys...

here is the link

http://realbig.com/detomaso/1998-02/1215.html

let me know what you think about it...

accordsir
guys do you know someone who had done some powdercoted engine part..what was the shop name and is it expensive..i read this is least expensive than normal paint..

CanuckDave
well Barry (dogstar) got his valvecovers done, they look good but the shop charged too much and didn't do what he asked them properly. He recommends gc custom metals

Supra_devil
actually Dave your wrong. i got them done and they didn't charge too much. 150 for cleaning, powder coating and clear coat. then they weren't entirely happy with it and wanted to redo them over. i said screw it good enough.

they did the color that i agreed to over the phone, they said it was a slightly mettalic grey and thats what i agreed to and surprise surprise, it was a metalic grey so they did what was agreed to. In resprospect I, me, should have gone down and looked at the colors in person and seen what was what. but i paid for it cuz i wanted it done to make the motor that i spent so much money and time on look nice.

Perfection Powdercoating. they did everything that was asked, did it timely, and charged reasonably for the work that was done.

dogstar
i still say that was too damn much, lol.

after talking with guys at a couple shops, ive been told that 100 would have been lots.

grab the phonebook and check around, there are tons of places doing powdercoating, and knowledge is power.

Supra_devil
well i've talked to other people too, they say that for cleaning powder coating and cleaning thats a decent price. for only powdercoat then yes 100 would be right. but i didn't have the full facilitys to chemically strip the old ones down. nor did i feel like doing the clearcoat myself.

there not the only place, and i'm sure others are comparable but the misconception was all i wanted to clear up.

accordsir
when my intercooler piping will be done i will go see the shop and have them to give me a price for the 4 piece ic . Then if it s to expensive i have other idea , like the crome of polish.

Hi accordsir,

Congrats on the purchase of the Supra. If you need a hand let me know. I will do what I can to help you out.

Finding a Grey or Black interior may be tricky. But check out www.taprecycling.com. They are a full serve autowrecker in the states that cater to Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Their pricing will be higher than a self serve wrecker however I am confident they will have what you are looking for. I think they give discounts to SOGI (Supra Owners Group International) members, but I could be wrong on that. Check out www.supras.com for more info.

Another good spot is www.car-part.com. This will enable you access to view inventory of wreckers that are full serve and online too. I have found this link to be helpfull in my parts search.

Also check out the Edmonton Supra Club Site at www.supraclub.ca
