Unfortunately I think that the only way to recover it is to sacrifice someone to the computer gods...fortunately you have someone that seems to have a death wish.

I would suggest calling ekota computers.

that's ugly... rip the drive bit for bit and assemble whats left... that's a job for an Ubergeek for sure. if the area that your files were stored was overwritten, it's pooched. kick the noob in the nuts for fucking your work. on a side note-EVER HEARD OF A BACKUP???

so what company do you work for that will be hiring a new tech guy soon? :)

and there is a possibilty of still recovering your data but it comes with a hefty price tag. there is data recovery companies that can get data off of a drive that was overwritten five times so there is a possibility of them getting yours none of them are local though. do some research on google for it.

The FBI can go down 7 layers last I hear, there's a place in BC thats not that bad for cost.

I didn't know Ekota did disaster recovery, I know Mike and Kathy there.

There is some software you could try but most of it you have to pay a couple hundred $$ for and I don't know how well it works.

I know there's some places in the states that well ouch, $2000/mb or Gb can't remember but they do the whole drive only not sections.

I would like to know what place this was too... just so I know not to recommend anybody there by accident. Mind you 90% of tech shops say they are not responsible for data lose and it is your responsibility to back up before you bring your computer in.

London Drugs is partner with Action Front - which is a fairly large international data recovery company.

For free they will take your old hd, ship it to Action Front and get you a quote.

I've had them to data recovery for as little as $700 before for clients....

I don't know if ekota does it themselves, but I'm sure they can at least recommend someone. My buddy used to work there....actually I think he still does contract work for them on occasion.:dunno:
