Online Racing Series this fall? - Click HERE for Original Thread

bdog-k9k
I'm thinking of starting an online racing series starting this Fall to keep the racing blood pumping all year round. My initial thoughts are that we have a few types of racing for people to choose from and run both realtime and solo events.

We would use 'Live for Speed S2' [http://liveforspeed.net] as the game for the series as it offers a wide variety of cars and tracks. You can also set up autocross courses and not have to worry about running out of cones :] Not to mention that its pretty cheap.. 12UK pounds ~ $35CAD for the full version. Can't afford it, no problem! There is a demo version that is playable online as well. LFS also has a HUGE online following with as many as 600 racers online from all over the world.

So, what I'm really after is an estimate on the number of people that would be interested in participating on a regular basis during the cold months and the type of racing they're are interested in.. The categories would be something like this:

1. Solo I
2. Solo II
3. Club racing (street cars - street tires)
4. GT racing (race cars - slicks)
5. GP2 (similar to GP2 which is a support race for F1)
6. Formula SAE
7. Ghetto (use only the cars and tracks available on the demo)

If enough people are interested, we should be able to make a pretty good go of a series.

So, if you are interested, pick your top 3 categories and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to post them.

**I'm not looking for a commitment, just an indication of intrest.. if you are interested, please post!**

from what I could find as far as screenshots go the game looks pretty good, there is a little room for improvement graphically. I am going to get the demo and test it out. I may be interested in this league.

The game is OK in the graphics department, but where it excels is the physics department - I have not played anything better. The online aspects of the game are good and stable as well.

So, in my mind, this is the best racing simulator you can buy for PC.

It looks like we are going to run the series with the primary focus on Autocross/Solo1/Solo2 initially.

There are a few reasons for this, the big one being that no one else runs a Solo series and the other is that the competition doesn't have to be realtime, so its easier for people to fit it into their schedules.

The events are probably going to resemble something like this:

1. A course is designed and all the competitors can view images of the course on a website.. this is like doing a course walk during a real autocross.
2. The competitor then downloads the course from the server and must complete x number official runs within a certain timeframe on a sanctioned server. The idea here is to prevent competitors from practicing the course before the official runs.
3. After the official runs are completed, the competitor is allowed unlimited 'fun' runs which do not count toward the series championship.
4. Points are then awarded to the fastest times in each class.

While this is a likely format, it will change based on what the competitors want to see for the first season.

Finally got off my a$$ and started creating a site.. lots of work to do yet but if you are up for some racing with LFS, the server name and passwd are here:
