Whats your engine compression? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Markgase2000
I got 9.5:1 in my Grand am is that decent compression for a NA car? Let me know what your compression is too.

Supra_devil
mines 8.8, next year is 9.0 and 85-86 is 9.2, europe version was 9.5 iirc.

sparkycivic
my civic was also 9.5. i think that is about the limit before you have to start thinking about gas octane and shit like that really bad. or maybe that's more like 9.8, or something ike that. turbos will be less than 8.6, for the same reason, just for comparison.

Wask
Mine is 11:1

SilverNeonRacer
Not sure about my fifth... prolly pretty low.. I know my truck is 21:1

I think the neon is 9.5:1 or there abouts.

mwdguy
17.2:1

Mustard
stock for us is 10:1.
Cultus "upgrade" is 11.5:1
and the turbo low comps i want are 8.5:1

i don't know what you hope to acheive from finding out others compression ratios... there are so many variables to consider.

I dont wish to achieve anything , just kinda interesting "iwasbored" 11:1 omg wtf do you drive man? high octane forsure in wetf that is lmao!
ummmm if you could give me an example i would be most gratefull :)"i don't know what you hope to acheive from finding out others compression ratios... there are so many variables to consider." mustard

trucks is super high! is that cus its a work engine kinda thing? I know its semi natural compression for it but wow!

6 cylinders and about 20 lbs of boost

lol

because it's a diesel

Bingo... I just dunno if that # includes the boost or not.

boost doesnt affect your actual compression ratio... all it is is a mathematical formula

Ok i was trying to achieve something here , explain damnit and dont leave me in the dark ffs! Thanks :) Im not great with math.......

Wheres the "Fuck you!" emoticon when you need it lol!

oldraven
8.0:1 In the TC.

Sport Truck mag converted a 350 to 383, and they got 9.5:1.

And an HO Jeep 4.0L has 8.8:1.

Boost affects your volumetric efficiency, if you didnt have the turbo your truck wouldnt run so well and have a hard time scavenging.

Diesel uses high compression due to the fact it relies on high compression to have the fuel mixture reach its flash point and combust, whereas spark ignition engine uses a spark to ignite it.

true but it still doesnt affect your static compression ratio .. that is costant, determined by your stroke and piston.

No of course not, just saying what the boost plays a factor. The diesel is over 100% efficient, whereas na is 33%

SilverNeonRacer
Ya the truck ran fine before hitting boost, but 20psi sure helps. Course thats prolly what killed it, no boost management at all, not even a wastegate, the newer ones, well even the next year of production even had wastegates.

Huh???

BlueTurboEGG
Stock my car was 9.5:1, with the headwork and metal head gasket, I would guess 8.5 to 8.7:1 19PSI on Esso gas :)

night_font
9.0:1

lovemytrx
11.5:1

Billy
9.8:1

SilverZ24
10.8:1

i forgot to give more specs

8.8 was rated at 145hp
9.0 was rated at 150hp
9.2 was rated at 160hp (they also changed intake runners though)

9.5(europe) was rated at 170

Good power for 25-20 years ago, lol.

DelSoln
10.6:1

dc2696
9.0:1
17.5:1 @20psi (hehehe)
