A total of two big pile of fresh dirt was found in my backyard after chasing off a cat. Thinking the cat was digging up the garden, I got my brother to clean up the pile of dirt, but already I knew it wasn't the cat's doing. After coming home not only were the 2 piles apeared again, a third was found 3 feets away............
We now know its a mole making a family under us.........So what can I do?? Anywhere to buy traps etc?? Some place was charging $100 per hr to catch the pest, but if it takes 3 hrs= $300.....
Anyone here had a mole in their home before? What did u do to make it go away??
I should take a hammer and just wait for it to come out, just like when I was a kid in those hitting games:lol:  |

make a pipe so that you can hook your lawnmower/tiller exhaust up to a hose, and stick the other end in the hole under one of the piles... run a tank of gas through the mower and your mole problem should be fixticated.
so a piece of metal leading to a hose should prevent meltdown, or maybe there's like some kind of hi-temp hose you can use, or maybe some 2 inch braided flexpipe, crappy tire might have something like that. good luck.
this is something my ex GF's dad taught me, he used his tiller, and it worked like a charm. |

| Maybe grab a water hose and flood it out? Just stand back because you might have a very wet, very pissed off mole flying out of the hole. |

flooding it out might be the most cost effective way to take them out, and your watering the dirty at the same time:thumbup: . when it pops out of the hole and is thinking 'WTF IS GOING ON', thats when me and kyuu will be ready with our mallets to play wack-a-mole heh... good times man... good times....
another solution would be to move into another house, not cost effective but wont have the mole problems anymore, maybe just a mortgage problem
or you can just pour concrete over the back yard and put some tables on it and have a BBQ:bowdown: |

| Just sit quietly in your backhard with a pellet gun, moles are blind so when he pops out, just shoot him. |

| Get a 30 lbs fire extinguisher, one of the extinguishers that sprays the powder. Let it off down the hole. If it doesn't die you'll still have a great time. |

| I had a mole in my lawn once, my neighbor had a mole trap, not sure where you can buy it, but you stick it in the top of the hole, and cover it, so no light comes through, seriously, within 1/2 hour, that mole came out into it, and was dead!! It was like a tube with a mousetrap inside. |

aww... kyuu would be so disappointed... if you cant find those holes in the ground, then maybe its not moles doing stuff, maybe its someone/something leaving it in a pile there |

leave cat traps around(im pretty sure they exist) or just leave some bear traps around, just be sure to warn the neighborhood that you have them to relieve you of any lawsuits. their also good if you hate dogs that walk all over your yard:thumbup: |

A little educational talk, from your not so ignorant neighbor!!
You do have what is commonly known as a mole, but is more likely a gopher. Most people think that gophers are those guys that dig dens under the surface, run around on the highway and get nailed by 18 wheelers. But those are ground squirrels, the most common around here are Richardson Ground Squirrels, scientific name of Spermopholis richardsonii.
Gophers are underground animals, and are nearly blind, because the only time they surface is at night (99% of the time). They have big ass claws on their front feet, and they fill in their own tunnel as they dig with the dirth they excavate from in front of them. This is why you cannot find a tunnel when you dig within the dirt mounds. They do tend to follow previously excavated tunnels though, as the dirt is less compact and makes it easier for them to move (this is important for trapping them).
They eat the roots of plants, which is what makes them so annoying, otherwise they wouldn't bother anything. To trap them, simply find the soft spots in their mounds (that sounded sick), and place the trap so that the opening faces the tunnel (it's a 50/50 chance of picking the correct direction. You will want to bury it just under the surface and completely cover it with dirt. Check it daily and once you get him, set it again, in case he has any buddies. Don't move it to a new mound, keep it where it is. the gopher will most likely come back to where you have the trap set. It's the same concept as not wandering when you are lost in the woods.
If you have any other questions just ask, I'm going to keep an eye on this thread.
Cheers,
Evan. |
