clicking at low speeds - Click HERE for Original Thread

penance
I'm having a problem lately when i am turning the wheel while driving at low speeds (aka in parking lots/garages, trying to park). When I turn the wheel to pull into a space, i can hear this loud clicking noise coming from the engine area. Any idea's what it could be?

It doesn't do it while driving at city/hwy speeds... just 15km/h and under..

arabian_ryda
axles maybe?

CV Joint in the axle. On a DSM it is more cost effective once you factor in labor to just replace the entire axle.

Don't leave it too long, it sucks to snap a joint away from home.

Thanks! I'm gonna have them focus on that when i take it in

What's the price difference between replacing an axel vs the cv joint on DSM's? (part price)

I was living in St.Albert at the time... called AMA... and they sent out 'Rogers Towing'

The front end went up on the lift arm, the rear on those wheel dolleys. BUT, he never locked down the wheel dolleys.... so when he backed up.... the rear dropped off to the ground.

Oh AMA that explains it.......

That clicking could be lifters too if its common it may be that.....

I say CV joints as well. As you know penance, I have the same gen DSM as you and I've got the same prob, I just havent gotten around to swapping in new axles yet.

Well it's only getting worse, so it's booked in for tomorrow.

Well i just got the call back on what they found...

Both axels are shot... they were suprised the car was still drivable :dunno:

I sorta had trouble paying attention after he said they're both done... but i heard him mention something about missing RF wheel ballbearings?!

Yeah, good thing i didn't leave it much longer

In most cases you should replace both sides anyway if you have the money. I hope they didnt charge you too much, you can DIY for about $130 a side I've been told by a handful of people. As for the bearings, no clue.
