WTF K Rock - Click HERE for Original Thread

HEWSINATOR
So K rock has been playing a loop of the line "No more Mr Noce Guy" for a long time now, with very intermittent breaks of a voice saying " Admit it, your intrigued", and " Listen at 12:00 am." I got an email too, and the website says the end is near, and to listen at 12.

I really do not car thaaat much, but fusck is the loop irritating. And the thing is, the breaks to give a very short message are not often enough, I think (but then I listened), to let all know that the station is not just hooped.

Anyhow, anybody know what is going on?

bigmack000

I heard that Mtv canada will be that new Razor network. I guess Chum bought who ever own Mtv Canada so they are changing it. I guess there will be A channel in other cities but for what ever reason the one here is now City tv. I was also told City Tv is for a younger audience were as A channel is more family stuff. I don't know what they are try to say by that?

We have enought top 40 junk, the TBS show in the morning was good on the way top work/school, and proved comical where the other stations lacked.

Dont get me wrong, i like what sonic has done.. But sometimes i just need to hear some old school shit.

NIGHTS WITH ALICE COOPER

In case you didn't hear at Midnight, 97-3 K-ROCK presents the evolution of Edmonton radio..."NIGHTS WITH ALICE COOPER"!

That's right, ALICE COOPER, will be your NEW overnight host Monday to Friday from 12AM - 5AM on Edmonton's Classic Rock, 97-3 K-ROCK.

ALICE COOPER broadcasts "from his underground bunker, a toxic studio never seen by the light of day" to Edmonton airwaves. Don't miss the shock rocker's show on 97-3 K-ROCK NOW! Drop Alice a line and make your requests.

Your dull nights have now come to an end, it's "NIGHTS WITH ALICE COOPER" on Edmonton's Classic Rock...97-3 K-ROCK!

Insomniac

i bet its aired across the world, not just edmonton..

REFLUX
It's cool to have a big name do their midnight show but I still fail to see why they did that little "stunt" for an entire day.

When I heard "no more mr.nice guy" 3 times in a row, I just changed the station.
How many people would've known of or even heard the bit where it tells you to listen in at midnight?

Poor marketing strategy if you ask me.

96MX6
We are talking about it....would we be if they didn't do it?

REFLUX
guess that's true but I wonder how many K-Rock listeners go on Internet forums to chat about stuff like this.

Just got to consider the demographic of K-Rock listeners, most of them are probably around their mid-30s to late 40s.
Most likely to be proficient at the Internet but do not use it as a major source of communication.

I doubt they would call up all their friends and gossip about the latest happenings at K-Rock.

But what do I know, I'm not 30 and didn't spend thousands of dollars on market research.

its not exclusive to edmonton.. and its prerecorded

I still think something bigger than just Alice Cooper is going on. Have you gone to their website? It only has some pages about Alice Cooper now. There's no more info on K-Rock itself.

They may be going through a station re-formating or something.......

Insomniac
The did the stupid stunt for media attention. Hence, the article in today's Sun.

quote:
Edmonton radio station K-Rock has injected some eyeliner and snakeskin into its overnight programming with the addition of metal madman Alice Cooper's syndicated radio show, Nights With Alice Cooper.

K-Rock sent listeners into a tizzy yesterday by airing a three-second clip of Cooper's No More Mr. Nice Guy - those very words, in fact - repeated over and over, for 12 hours straight, from noon until midnight. Like a stuck record from the ninth circle of hell itself.

Every few minutes, a glib voice would come on the air to make a cryptic comment and tell listeners that "Edmonton radio changes at midnight."

"Yep, we're getting a lot of complaints. Absolutely a lot of complaints," K-Rock operations manager Rob Mise said yesterday. "But I know we have a lot of people who are still very, very curious, and that's why we're doing it."

K-Rock brought in extra people yesterday to man the station's switchboard - the voice-over would frequently encourage people to phone in with their thoughts - with as many as 30 calls a minute lighting up the lines, and thousands of e-mails pouring in over the afternoon and evening.

Losing half a day's worth of air time and possibly annoying listeners into a state of homicidal mania might seem like an extreme step just to promote a new show in the weeknight midnight to 5 a.m. spot, but Mise said a guy like Cooper is worth the attention.

"It's true classic rock," said Mise. "He's got stories about the people he's met over the years, and he ties them into songs. It's a fabulous show."

The legendary 57-year-old shock-rocker, whose real name is Vincent Furnier, happens to be a frightfully funny and intelligent guy, and an avid golfer outside the Alice persona. He pre-records his show the previous day from wherever he happens to be in the world, and Mise said Cooper will be using the K-Rock studios in West Edmonton Mall to do Nights With Alice Cooper when he's in Edmonton Oct. 22 for a concert at the Winspear Centre.

Mise said he would have liked to slot the show into the weekday evening spot, but Canadian content regulations nixed that idea.

The show is heard on about 60 stations in the U.S. and has an accompanying website at NightsWithAliceCooper.com with details on the week's upcoming instalments.

"It's anti-radio, it's anti-hype," said Mise. "It's just Alice, who has been there, done that." .

HEWSINATOR
To say that the voice would come on every few seconds is not true.

I listened for a while (quitley for 20 minutes) to see what was going on, while I drove home. I just do not think that mo0st would have, maybe they did. The only reason I payed attention was because I am in the marketing industry and was interested for that aspect, not as a listener/consumer.

Hi 96MX6,

Is it just me or was I the only one that picked up on it before it was released? The song they were playing was "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Alice Cooper From the album Billion Dollar Babies (1973).

I figure there had to be something going on with Alice Cooper and K-Rock as they kept on repeating that lyric over and over again puting me into a hypnotic trance.
