An IntelŪ PentiumŪ D processor-based PC delivers an extra powerful gear when you need it. Accomplish more while running multiple applications, such as editing video while downloading music.
soudn liek waht you need more here http://www.intel.com/products/processor/pentium_D/ |

| Pentium D is the new Duel processor (sp?) line from Intel. Basicly it takes 2 processors and splits the work between them. Theya re really great for big graphic editing, 3d modeling and data crunching. If you do none of the above look into a duel core proc. AMD makes a mean one. Check out the AMD X2 4200+ <---- best bang for the buck right now. |

The dual core systems really shine when your running many complex programs at the same time. By compelx I mean Photoshop, AutoCAD, Premier, Microstation, ect. Any reasonable computer can run Exporler, iTunes and Outlook at once.
How much was this system? I ask becuse it sounds like your not really into the high demand stuff apps like the ones Complexity noted. Do you do any 3d gaming?
IMO, if you don't really need the computing power under the hood, but want to have a better computing experience, your money is better spent on the cool interface stuff like a 19" LCD, a second 19" LCD, the best wireless laser mouse and keyboard, kick ass speakers and a really nice chair.
Anyways give us more info and we'll try to help you out. |

Amen.
It's a shame that most people would never listen to this advice. |

A better option yet would be to have a video card with dual display function and then hook up a 27" LCD to it via HDMI cable. The picture quality will still be great and in some cases it is cheaper then getting dual 19" LCD monitors. In regard to getting speakers I would suggest going with headphones. Then again I am a hardcore gamer and headphones are great for picking up little or directional sounds in games and if you go to LANs people won't yell at you for blasting your sound. A good pair would be a set of Pantronics audio 90, or Senhiser 500/550 or a USB driven set of Icemat Siberias. |

This is the computer I was looking at, I won't be running any crazy programs lol just limewire and the internet and i have a ton fo movies and other videos and what not lol...i guess this may not be the right choice? I was looking at Pentium 4 but if D just came out and is the next step up like a Pentium 5 I would like to go with something that won't be outdated as soon as i get it lol which is always the case with things these days.

- Light net use (surfing, email, P2P)
- Media player (MP3's, and Vids, no content creation)
- No 3d games
Your needs seem to be pretty light, just basic day to day things. Really, any reasonable computer can do everthing you want.
Computers will get out dated, you really can't do to much about that. A $4000 computer from 3 years ago still needs to be replaced today, and a $2000 computer today will still needs to be replaced in 3 years later. So don't worry about that.
Thats a nice system, but you going to be paying for stuff you don't really need. Ofcourse, is money is no object, get the best you can.
I'm not giving this place a plug, but, based on what you told us of you demands, I think you'll be pretty happy with something like this. Here |

Theres nothing like a great set of 5.1 head set at a LAN party, it really helps on FPS  But good speakers are still needed.
Personaly, tend to gavitate to the dual (or triple) screens because I use CAD. The X300 on board vid has 2 DVI outputs so it can use 2 LCD's right off the bat!:D |
