MCMINNVILLE, Tennessee -- A former physical education teacher indicted for sex acts with a 13-year-old boy who attended her school went to jail for nine months yesterday in a plea deal that prohibits her from getting any financial benefit from the case.
Pamela Turner, 28, entered a no-contest plea that allowed her to avoid a scheduled November trial on multiple charges of having sexual intercourse and oral sex with the teenager during a three-month relationship that started in November.
Turner became tongue-tied trying to enter her plea after hearing the prosecutor read to the court details of the sexual encounters, including that one occurred in the school gym, the Southern Standard newspaper reported.
"I can't even talk," she told Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley.
Turner was arrested in February and freed on a $50,000 US bond after Warren County investigators discovered the relationship and an indictment charged her with 15 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 13 counts of statutory rape.
Before resigning, Turner taught physical education and coached girls basketball for two years at Centertown Elementary, a school for kindergarten through Grade 8 about 100 kilometres southeast of Nashville.
She was a former college homecoming queen and basketball player who once appeared as a bikini-clad promoter for a professional wrestling match. The sheriff once described her as "absolutely gorgeous."
Turner arrived at the courthouse more than an hour before the hearing and made no comment other than responses during the proceedings.
Her lawyer, Peter Strianse of Nashville, said afterward that the plea agreement, with charges punishable by up to 100 years in prison, was best for his client.
After she finishes her time in the Warren County jail, she will be on supervised probation for seven years and three months as part of the plea deal.
The judge also ordered Turner to surrender her teaching certificate and said she would be registered as a child sex offender.
As well, the sentence prohibits her from profiting from the case and does not allow interviews.
The mother of the teenager in the case previously described Turner as a family friend and said she hoped there would not be a trial.
District attorney Dale Potter said yesterday that was part of the reason for the plea agreement.
Potter has said Turner lived at the boy's house "for a brief period of time when she was moving from residence to residence."
Her husband, Chris Turner, filed for divorce in January, at the same time she was indicted. |

| I think that is stupid. The family of the boy doesn't care, I'm sure the boy is happy with himself, and the teacher gets her whole life fucked up. Way too harsh of a sentence. |

She had sex with a child, regardless of what her family thinks, I don't see how that should be treated lightly. There is something inherently wrong about that. If someone doesn't think so, please share, cause I'd like to hear other opinions.
Plus, from her POV, I find that disgusting. Geez, it's a kid! |

| She's a fucked up individual. Let's try that same scenario with the sexes reversed. The whole nation would be up in arms. There is only one road to equality, and this woman spending a hefty portion of her life behind bars is it. No double standards for sex offenders. |

| ok, seriously a woman who looks like that could basically get almost any guy she wanted and she decided to boink a pimply 13 year old? She must have been some kind of desperate because that's right off the chart on the WTF Meter. |

Would you *have* hit it?
REPEATEDLY.

........but if you think thats wacky........
Then look at your provinical laws regarding this same issue.
......... Just because it is legal........Is it right.....? |

I think she just took advantage of the situation. He was there, and she wanted it.
Completely selfish yes.
I certainly cannot explain the thought process behind it, but I try.
I do think she should get railed for what she has done and I don't approve either, but all I'm saying is that if I was that kid, in that situation, I'd be like "Rock on baby" |

A teacher banging a 13 year old is not legal. |

Hence why it should not be legal at whatever age the legal age of consent is: 14??
Seriously 14??! That really makes me think about what I believe a 14 year old should be doing.
While this may be a double standard I think making a male and female age of consent different (higher for females) would be a good thing. Girls are stupid.
hahaha |

It's such a touchy subject. If it was rape, then yes I think she should get whats coming to her. But to me, a horny 13 year old banging his teacher is not rape. I'm not saying what she did was right, or moral, but I don't believe she should have to be punished for it for a great portion of her life. In my mind it also depends who initiated it, like if she took advantage of him or he seduced her?
Either way I am not saying she should walk away with no charges, I believe she should be punished, but how long is right for this crime... |

The charges themselves indicate the basic moral issues in this case:
1. sexual battery by an authority figure
2. statutory rape.
I'd say 1 is worse than two, although 2 is pretty bad too in this case. What we have here is a crime where the victim does not feel victimized. That doesn't make it ok, or that society should just let her go.
I think 9 months + probation is very light. Like someone said, reverse the genders, and people would want the teacher on death row. |

 Have you ever seen the seductive powers of a 13yo male? Drooling and babbling. |

So would a 2 year spread maximum until the age of 18? be enough?
13-15, 16-18 etc........
I could never see a 35 year old (pick your age range/sex) with a 14 year old.
Thats just wrong in so many levels....... |

You couldn't ?? Are you sure??
Mary Kay Letourneau: 35
Little Boy: 12/13
Hmm... don't be too presumptuous. |

I am aware of Letourneau........
I just can't 'see' how this would work at any level. I was referring to the statement as more of a personal moralistic judgement.....
We all have to draw the line some where. The line gets foggy in some cases......... but in the letourneau case there are some serious psychological issues........ |

Is there a double standard in the prosecution and protection of male and female sexuality? :dunno:

| Another example of a double standard, such a light sentence. If this had been a male teacher and a student of the same age imagine what the sentence would have been then. |

| I didn't read the article, I thought she got more, I just saw the 7 year probation part. |

Sure there is..............
The dixon case opens up even more cans of worms when you are dealing with an interracial act of sex.
Lets just say he got caught at the wrong time and state.
Sad. |

| I cant beleive the Sun ran this story on the front page. It has no effect on us, no local angle its not even really news, unless your are the kind of scumbag that breaks into ventilation systems so you can spy on women peeing in the washroom from an overhead air vent. |

For some reason I feel like there should be a double standard for boys and girls...but I'm not sure why...
It seems like a 13 year old boy having sex with a hot teacher is every kids dream! And I have trouble really thinkign the kid will be emotionaly damaged, and I don't feel it would be right to send the teacher to JAIL.
Meanwhile a 13 year old girl being abused is compeltely different, I'd imagine the girl might suffer huge emotional damage, and that teacher should be locked up for many years.
It's one of those things I can't defend with a logical argument, but it just seems "different" for males/females.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that males are much more able to defend themselves from a female teacher, than vice versa? And the likelihood of someone being take advantage of seems much much higher with the bigger, stronger male teacher?
I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud here... |

I think its how we perceive it........
Just as you state the two scenarios.........
Dream and abuse.
but lets face it............. I can't remember the ratio of female to male sex offenders........but just lets say. Males have that ratio covered. |
|
|
| oldraven |
And women are safe to do as they please.
Whether it's a dream or not, it's abuse in both cases. You even state the double standard in your own post.
"a 13 year old boy having sex"
"a 13 year old girl being abused"
And you have to admit, as a 13yo boy, you had no idea what was appropriate. Esspecially when it comes to mr. winky. I know I fantasized about one of my teachers, in Jr. High, but if any of those fantasies had actually happened, I'm sure it would have had a huge effect on my moral development. It's abuse either way. |

It's on the frontpage because the Sun centres around grabbing peoples attention - which they did with their headline and a picture of a hot blond.
The Sun is all about that - one week I counted (We get the Sun here at work every day) and there was a cute girl on the cover every day. |

I always thought the rule was: half your age plus 7.... maybe that's just more of a guideline.
25/2 +7 = 19
(25-7) * 2 = 36  |

BUHHAHAHHA
I will remember that when I am 65.
Here is some interesting bedtime reading.........
http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/l...bs/prb993-e.htm
Its interesting that anal sex is illegal under the age of 18....
EDIT: Uhmmm I just read the conclusion to the legal paper (link above)..........and it comes up with the suggestion I posted earlier. 2 years difference under 18. WEIRD.

Yeah I stated my last post wrong. I definately can understand why they ran it front page. I know what market they try to target, and how much money they make off selling papers at the news stand. |

Agreed 100%. A double standard is COMPLETELY acceptable in this case.
If my son told me he was hitting that, I'd high-five him. Reverse the sexes and the teacher would be scraping his balls off the pavement after I did a burnout on them. |

i would blame the guy that she dated before she got it on with the 13 year old. Obviously buddy was so bad that a 13 year old could out do him. I swear why didn't i get these teachers in high school. ALl i ever had was a bitchy english teacher yes she used to be a cheerleader and she flirted but she was such a bitch that even tho she was extremely hot i wouldn't go out of my way to have sex with her. That being said if she came onto me im all game but damnit.
yeah double standard is huge on this. If that was a male teacher and that was my kid , i would be in jail for killin him |

double standard yes,
every 13 yr olds dream, yes, but the pint was maid above, even though it's the dream, it still would impact the moral development
yeah it is ridiculous that it was front page news, for fuck sakes, look at the bullshit going on in the world, and the media wants us to watch a hot blonde home coming who is banging a 13 yr old, come on people wake up and smell the distraction....but then again, maybe it's just me...
and on a side note, yeah, I'd hit it
