My moms maxima (88) has a very low oil pressure level. I checked the oil and its full but it is quite dirty. Im just curious as to what would cause this so that i can get it fixed for her. thanks!

what do you mean dirty? it has plenty of dirty and sand in it or metal shavings? or is it just really really dark?

the oil is damn near black it needs to be changed but its still full i dunno if that would affect the pressure level or not it just being dirty

Hi 92_WhitE_H23

I would say that your oil pressure sending unit is gummed up needs to be cleaned and or replaced. But before you rip into that, I would check to make sure the pressure sending unit has a clean connection and contact with the wire that will be attached to it.

Another possability is that her oil pump is starting to fail or the screen is all gummed up from the dirty oil. I would do an engine flush when you change the oil.

One thing is for certain. She needs an oil change. :D

Edited as I just realized I am having difficulties spelling and repeating words. LOL

Hi 92_WhItE_H23

Happy to help out. It would be nice to fix something for once with out having to climb under a car eh? Let me know how it turns out. If the pump is failing you would need to remove the oil pan. Since you are doing that, it would be a good opprotunity to clean the rest of the sludge off the bottom of the pan! :D
