Crank Angel Sensor - Click HERE for Original Thread

hmmm the timing on my car is off and where would be a good place to get the timing back to factory or can someone help me do it? do i need timing gun etc? ...

You need a timing gun and a spark-plug wire (one with a long plug on the end). You have to pull your #1 coil pack out, connect the spark plug wire in series between your sparkplug and the coil pack, and clip your inductive pickup onto that wire to get a reading. And then point the timing gun at the crank pulley. (some say you can use the little wire by the PTU, but that's never worked properly for me).

To adjust the timing, you then need to loosen (but not remove) the three bolts that hold the crank angle sensor in place so its free to rotate. Then you can make *slight* adjustments to its position, like really really slight. As much as a millimeter rotation in either direction can move your timing a few degrees. Move it counter-clockwise to advance the timing, and clockwise to retard. You may also want to etch or mark a line on both parts of your CAS before you start moving it so you can reference your starting point.

Tighten up when you're done.

hmmm anyone have this "spare coil pack" or can help me do this i will pay for someoen to do this all i know is i need the timing gun but the coil pack thing sounds kinda confusing? am i just using the coil pack i have n how does this work =\ sorta lost

The Z32 has direct ignition. To the layman all that really means is instead of having a distributor and individual sparkplug wires running to each cylinder, your car has 6 little ignition coils (called "coilpacks"), each directly over the sparkplug for each cylinder. So our cars don't have a discrete sparkplug "wire" per se.

You don't need to get a coilpack, because your car already has them. All you need is a spark plug WIRE, from anything, as long as its a type that has a deep reach so you can plug it in to a deep hole. (I've heard that a plug wire from an old Nissan Pulsar is ideal.)

The one I have is just something generic I picked up at a Partsource type store years ago and its not totally ideal... I need to use long skinny needle nose pliers to help it seat over the plug properly. There are better plugwires for the job out there than the one I have.

hmmmm my car bounces too...under 1000rpm but goes back to normal, for myself I may just get a full inspection done on the car and go from there.

I've been using MG Chemicals Contact Cleaner for years, works great on corroded connectors. Spray on, let sit for a bit, wipe excess away. Finish off the connector with a bit of di-electric grease to keep water out.

Both products available at electronic stores, such as Active Electronics on Calgary Trail N around 61 ave. or on the west end at MRO Electronics on 178 Street and 105 ave. Radio Smack might have something similar, no guarantees.

Regards,
