Heh, i laugh just because they keep trying to steal the welders from the shop I work for. If you wana make some real money man, go work union in Fort Mac. My dad (also a electrician) is a GF there working for Chemco, making huge money. Just a idea if your willing to work outside in the cold threw the winter. You likley would be hard pressed to find a place that would pay more in canada. |

Nice, yeah well i think ima give it a shout, i hate my company down here in Vancouver. The bosses are just not on the ball and they blame everyone else for the mistakes that happen and its gotten old really fast.
Ive been getting billed out as a Journeyman for the passed month and im left on my own for a lot of things and then they complain that when i did the job normally takes someone an hour it took me close to 2. Im like well when you pay me 13$ an hour and you just charged them 60 , the fact it took me an extra hour more then someone who has done it for 4+ years im still makin you money, so yeah that finally got me upset. Admittedly i was a little slow on the pipe run but it was my first time bendin 2 inch pipe and runnin it, i didn't wanna screw it up.
Anyways enuff of that speel, good to know ill place some calls to the edmonton union , anyone know what the wages are like ? |

| So I've been told, union apprenticeship isn't the greatest thing to do. You don't get a wide variety of tasks - you're either only building tray, only pulling cable, only terminating panels, etc... therefore you don't learn much. |

depends a lot. a wide statement like that isn't fair, theres residential, commercial and industrial work. then every job and part of the job is different.
as a first year apprentice i was making 12.50 iirc, then i had benifits, pension, etc. well worth it in my books.
Now i realize theres probably non-union, and union guys on this site and i'd rather not see a big arguement over whats better. IMO pension and benifits are as important as in your pocket pay, thats why i'm union, its good for me now and me and my family later.
For info on most of the unions in alberta you can check the alberta building trades website, or for nonunion there is always ledcor. |

can you give me a website?
Well all apprenticeships depend right. As a first year u will get all sorts of jobs and dont learn much, but as u get into 2nd and 3rd year and show some potential they start pushin u in the right direction. Me im already learnin way more then most journeyman when it comes to firealarms and termentatin panels. but yeah. It all depends union is rough sometimes but its pretty good other times, all depends really on your district. |

I believe Ledcor is union. I could be wrong but my brother was saying it was and that he had to pay union fees. :dunno: |

| Ledcor is NOT union, they sometimes hire union contractors cuz they can't get enough of their own guys. But ledcor itself is not union. |
