Alright so i got a house now.. hasnt really had people living in it for a while...
Renovating the thing.. however 1 problem.
There are mice  .. anyone ever deal with trying to get rid of them?.. how effective are cat's? (i was gonna get one anyway.. not just to take care of the mice...)
trap's?.. etc? its a big house.. around 6 bedroom..
Any advice?
thanks.

| cats r good aslong as there outside/farm cats, like if a cats been living inside its whole life i dought it would be a good mouser:dunno: |

| finding a good mouser is as easy as going to a farm, its what i did. traps work good too, use raisens and peanutbutter (not at the same time) it seems to draw them out the best in my experience. The one winter we had about 30 in our house, they were gone in a week. |

| if u want a good mouser/farm cat i can ask my mom if she'll donate one, the only thing is...that there fucking huge cats, like probably the biggest cats u'll see that aren't some type of wildcat, let me know. |

I would suggest using lots and lots of traps. And that combined with a cat or two should solve the problem. As long as you don't mind hearing "SNAP!" a few times every night. Also try not to leave food out/open and try to store stuff in containers that mice can't get through.

ahh...mice! I'd share my experience.
there was 2 mice sneaked into my garage. we stopped one by catching it alive. (I catch it with a small bucket) not a trap, catch.
then the other mice disappear.
couple weeks later, in our food storage room, we found traces of mice shit, and then we found the mice was there.
spend a lot of time to lure it out, and catch it finally.
2-3 weeks later, more mice @ storage.
guess what, they reproduce !!
I can't find their "nest" even though I clean up the storage room.
one by one I catch them with bare hands (well, with a bucket)
total count is 7.
while I catch them by "channel them to a cornor with big objects", I found out these facts
mice can jump pretty high, like 2-3 feet. I was sitting on the ground, blocking its path, it jumped to my face.
mice can chew through even hard plastic.
mice can smell fear, or to say the dead body of another mice.
the mice I caught was white, kinda like the pets one.
I am still pretty amaze that I can caught like 9 mice.
and what do you say I do with the capture mouse?
let's just say some were tortured and some were release to someone I hate. |

Hi Nick,
Mice are never a fun problem to deal with. You do have some options avaliable for you to execute.
Option #1 is to buy the "Victor" Mouse traps. They are the ones that go Snap. The mouse is caught and killed quickly and effectively. Release the dead mouse outside, or into a garbage, bait and reset. What I have found that works best for bait is cheese. I had tried peanut butter before. The peanut butter only proved to me one thing. The mice are smart and exceedingly efficient at consuming the peanut butter with out getting caught. :D
Option #2 is to go with a more humaine trap such as a live trap. This causes no harm to the mouse. Once caught you can transport it back outside, or to another location. Chances are this mouse will find its way back. :(
Option #3 is to try to catch them with a bucket. This is effective, poses the same problems as option #2 but can be very time consuming.
Option # 4 is to get a "sticky pad" mouse trap and lay it down near there home. This will catch and tie up the mice in a similar fassion as a hanging fly trap (the sticky film that hangs down). The down side to this one is that the mouse can seperate its self if only two of its legs are cought on the paper trying to free its self. This not really a good option. The down side is that if you catch this mouse with 2 feet and it is still alive it will be flipping around trying to get free. Pretty gross if you ask me.
Option # 5 is to use Wilson's rat poison. This stuff comes in Blue Pellets which is consumed by the mice. This is supposed to smell and taste like the food they would eat. (?) This will dehydrate the mouse and cause it to shrivle up and die. The down side to this is that they will crap "Blue" This is how you know it is working. The mouse poop will be left around. This will not be safe for animals or children as there is a chance they can consume this too. The other downside is that you may never find the mouse again. It could be hiding in your walls dead.
Option # 6 is to call a pest control person. This will be costly, but it could be worth while.
When you are confident all the mice are gone you can start to plug up the holes with steel wool and then refinish with drywall. This of course depends on the finish that they have chewed through.
But one thing important to remember. For every mouse you see, there are four that you do not. They breed quickly so try to eliminate all sources of potential food.
Hope this helps.
Sorry for the long post.

| my cat has never been an outdoor cat but last winter a mouse got into our apartment and didn't make it out alive, woke up with a present at the front door when I was leaving for work. I would class her as a good mouser |

To add to GOT BOOST very good options
2) Penut butter is best thing for live traps. If you do get one live, take it really, really far form you place or it will will its way back. |
