Rotor Coating - Click HERE for Original Thread

Grandmaster
I want to have my rotors cadmium coated. Does anyone know where I can get this done in Edmonton? Is there other options for rotor coatings?

Inzane
I prefer zinc plating over cadnium personally. Zinc plating is silver in color, whereas cadnium tends to have that brass-colored look.

One other thing about cadnium. It is a confirmed carcinogen. Why should we care... for the most part, maybe we don't need to. But anyone who's worked on brakes and used lots of brake cleaner and wire scrub brushes knows what kind of fine dust lingers in the air in the wheelwell while you've got your head in there. I personally would not want to be breathing dust that contains cadnium particles. (same goes for brake dust from pads containing asbestos).

Do you know of any shops that do zinc plating for automobiles? Would you have any idea how much it would cost?

Locally? I have no idea.

I ordered my rotors from a couple Z parts vendors in the US.

Try

Centennial Zinc Plating Ltd
(780) 468-5849
6007 76 Avenue NW
Edmonton, AB T6B 0A7

Good luck, they'd be bling when they were done!!

Cheers,

Evan.

What does coating a rotor do? Is there any performance gain or just bling factor?

Mostly bling, but the plating does offer real corrosion resistance. That's the only benefit.

If you saw my Z the last couple seasons after I got my 18" rims, my oem rotors looked like shit behind them (you could never really see them behind my stock rims before). All the unswept areas of the rotor had lots of surface rust (hub, outer edge, etc.). I got zinc plated slotted brembo rotors this spring and they look much, much nicer. And hopefully the plating will last at least a few seasons. :fingersx:

HEHEh I just used silver BBQ paint to rust proof the rotor hats. I figure plating/painting the rotor surface it would just scrub off after a couple hard stops.

anything on the barke surface will come right off as you said^^^

but the edges and the hat will have silver shine wihich can also be done at home using hi temp paint VHT makes assorted colors and CDN tire has a few options as well.

other than those few areas it is pretty much point less

I just use high temp. engine paint and it works fine.
