mine snapped going down st.albert trail. well the one that makes 1,2,5,and reverse work.
need the one or both asap
work said the reason is because the cable wasn't adjusted properly. so i will be going after sumaru's for reinbersement.
let me know if you have them and what price.
for a 1995 prelude SRV |

cant you get them from CDN tire? chances are sumarus would say that they adjusted them properly and its your fault for using old junk, or they would ask you to prove how its their fault. basically your words againest theirs, atleast thats the way i see it.
is the sale on next week after labor day or before? |
|
|
| 2ndgenlude |
cdn tire doesn't have them and honda wants $470 for the set.
sale is the one on eight now i think. ends thursday. but they will honor sale price i week before and after. NAPA doesn't even list them. mechanic said the cables looked new, and showed no signs of wear. i was in the shop while they were taking them off. just too much tension on the 1. |

When i told you it was that ghetto shops fault, I remember you saying "How could it be their fault"
anyways shifter cables don't just snap. I think it was a combo of the shop, and you bagging the shit out of your car. |

| BTW buying them new isn't your only option, there not too hard to find |

| i have a funny feeling it has a little more to do with the driver then it does the mechanic hah |

haha, i wasn't that hard on them. 90% of the time i drove like any other person. i had my old 2nd gen and treated it the same and had that car for a year no problem. the cables wern't adjusted and were probably installed incorrectly. theres no reason for cables to snap. i only drive the car to and from work. and its not like im playinginitial d there and back.
for all i know the cables just could have failed. shit happens. shifter felt wrong anyways. felt way too loose, so i havn't been hard on it. been meaning to get it looked at, but obviously waited too long.
its only been standard for a month. if that. |

| where exactly are the adjustments on the cables? |
|
|
| 2ndgenlude |
| supposely you can add/decrease tension on them. mine were just put in and i had at least a inch of play in gear (only 1st and second). they said it was because they wern't adjusted when they were put in. my shifter was really sloppy in all gears besides 3rd and 4th. i guess i will have to see if they can clear it up. |
|
|
| 2ndgenlude |
| did a search on prelude power and they is quite a bit of talk on cable adjustment, so it might be my problem. i hope its just a adjustment |

| I have a set of 4th gen shifter cables....PM if you want it. And yes, I know the feeling. I snapped my cables last month. A very costley mistake indeed.....I zip tied them together every 6-7 inches so they don't move around as much.... |
|
|
| 2ndgenlude |
pmed.
and did the zip ties help at all? |
|
|
| 1_Bar |
| yeah, it helps....prevents the cables from moving apart and possibly kinking during shifts.... |

as far as i know, you can bag the shit out of a metal rod as thats what your old prelude was using, cables are a different story, im surprised the clutch cable in your old prelude didnt snap
just curious, do you start your car off in 3rd gear now, or push the car back like i had to with my accord? |

its tyler... i dont think he would blame his extremely agressive shifts on the cables breaking would be interesting only having 3rd and 4th gear at your disposal though, the first 2 would atleast make it more drivable |

| just for reference i just phoned alberta honda and they said they have never sold one before. they havn't even heard of one snapping before. and im sure a lot of people drive harder then me. this didn't have to do with driving habits. |

then i guess sumarus didnt adjust them properly, tell them its their fault and see how they react |

| honda also said you can determine how far the cable threads in and out to change the "home" of the side gears. they either said mine were too tight (unlikely because shifts were sloppy) or too lose which caused the cable to be pulled from the connecter on the tranny since it was shocked every shift. its only been manual for a month, but i guess thats all it takes. noone in the city has one this weekend. can't get the car until wednesday. |

| now im curious as to why honda changed from torque rods to cables... atleast their clutch system isnt ancient anymore like it would be on my accord, just dont want my cable to snap on me, then im definetely towing |

got the car back. shifts much better then before, although 5th gear still grinds when the car is cold. shifter cables worked out :)
much more responsive and tighter shifts.
payed 160 for install/supplies/other charges with my discount. would have been 200 without it.
1.9 hours labour. looked like a bitch to do. went into the shop while they were doing it when it was dead in parts. |
