Looking to see if there is any interest in my 1991 MR2. It is in great shape has 95 tail lamp converson, greedy turbo timer, enkei 17's, 2 inch drop kit and sideskirts and front bumper have been changed. Car is white with black leater, 5spd and just got a 500.00 tune up. Has 118km. Clean nice car if you have any interest just PM me and I can show the car is a few days. Its a great car but has to go. For a stock motor and parts MR2 it runs and performs outstanding.

dude you know you can grab a '94 TT from Van. right now w/full bodykit, rims, system, etc. for 17,500... or if you're adventurous grab a '92 Turbo from the states, import it.... fly down, grab the car drive it up from wherever and then at the border have the papers ready, 3 hrs. there inspecting it and proving insurance and you're off so about 50 hrs. of your time through net, phone, flying down, driving up and about 800 for plane ticket, 400 for hotels, 400 for gas, 3 grand we'll say and about 6000 USD for your average MR2 in the states... if I'm serious about a car I'll travel and spend that much time if I want it bad enough.. and why not to save yourself 2 grand or more???
MR2 TRD for 15000
MR2 Turbo 5500 USD - 9000 CDN!
One last example.....
MR2 Modified.... 5000 USD... that's about 8300 CDN... 3000 to get it here TOTAL - 12000 max.
Or just rail it up here for 1000 cdn if you're confident about the car, and have papers ready at the border S of med. hat.... why not save yourself the money... this goes for 300ZX, MR2, Ferrari's, Mercedes, BMW, S2000, Supra, etc. :D |

Sure those ones Look good..... But have you actually been down there to look at them? Steve actually has had this car in his shop or knows the guy and knows what kind of condition it is in. Thats the one thing i dislike about gettin sports cars or any car for that fact. If you dont know the person that you are buying the car from then you dont know if or how hard it has been bagged. Also if you noticed the first link you have says the car has 156 000 MILES. Thats in freakin miles! so that equals out tolike 249 600K Km's! The car that Steve is "advertising" has 118K Km's! If you look at the mileage on the second MR2 it has 264000 Km's on it.
Now tell me this. would you rather have an MR2 that has 118K Km's that has had work done to it and you will know truthfuly from steve if its been bagged or not or would you rather buy a car that you have no knowledge of how its been driven? or maintained for that fact! |

all good points, but 20 g's for a car over a decade old with "a stock motor and parts" is a little much. ;)
I mean, it's a summer car akin to the del sol or miata so we in Alberta expect lower km's. But the miata and the del sol go for half that. True, they aren't turbo ... but adding a turbo is probably cheaper than the asking price.
Mind you.... that's just my rational. |

'nuff said sorry link doesn't work but feel free to go to car appraisal it's the appraisals standard guide along with them using the american autotrader believe it or not... and they base appraisals on the rarity and demand in the U.S and not Canada.
With the work.. dropping, enkei's, turbo timer, system (if any) and few other options and the body update will raise the car.... so it will appraise at 12 grand CDN MAX.... it's worth 5500 USD (w/o) Mods, and that's being generous. I'm familiar with appraisals actually and that's being fair to the car giving it an all around excellent grade considering the rarity and demand of the vehicle... A car may be rare... but doesn't always mean the demand is there.. which raise the value along with the work gone into it... NEVER pay more then 14,000 for a great MR2 Turbo any year with it in tip top shape... So unless the car has about 8,000 worth of mods.... it's not worth near 18,000 even. For sound system you can expect to get back 30% of the value... for body mods 50% and for engine mods like turbo timers, b.o.v's about 60% and for rims.... almost doesn't matter unless they're top of the line my '94 Cup 911 rims brought up the value of my car by about 600 lol.... 150/rim and they're about 800/ea. retail. Why pay more for something then it's worth? My Porsche came in at 19,600 and I paid 16,000 for it and I'm kicking myself for paying so much.... You should pay about 75% of appraisal value and never pay more for a car than it's appraisal or around what it's worth unless it truely is a rare species or is priceless to you.. remember a car is only worth how much you want it... I'm just saying sure it must be nice and sounds great... hell I'd buy an MR2 Turbo if I could do things over again but the price is a bit stiff.... advertise it for 16, 17ish and it'll go pretty fast. My advice though if you're going to be paying more then 15,000 for a car or if it's a rarer piece like a 300zx or other japanese sports cars... insist on an appraisal... or even look it up on the autotrader yourself... add 2 or 3 grand CDN on top of the USD appraisal and that's your figure.... Just trying to save some ppl from the same mistakes I made with my previous cars  |

The car sold?, good show.
While I don't believe in criticising other peoples FS threads, I beleive Steve is just trying to reach out to the person who has the same affinity for the car as he does. I know I would
I don't know what work he's done to it or anything so I don't have an opinion, but it is the height of bad manners to criticise others FS threads, I know you guys are joking from the tone and smilies so it's cool B) |

You have to admit MKII's have been one of the hot selling cars to import enthusiasts the past couple of years. I sold my 91 Turbo for $20000 which had 147000 kms on it. |

Well said BTE,
If you think the asking price is too high, then don't buy it, don't degrade the thread.
Supply vs. demand = selling price, for what it's worth, I don't think Steve was far off at all on his asking price, once you account for "bargaining" space.
There is no accounting for taste in vehicles, and the vehicle's I have seen that Steve owns are done very tastefully. |
