Turn signal light anomaly? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Sometimes my left turn signal will turn on and remain on-full-time, not clicking. This is when I'm driving and haven't even switched it on. It goes off if I turn the signal indicator on/off. What do you think is wrong, is it a loose signal indicator lever?

Hi Colossus,

Welcome to the world of electrical gremlins.

It sounds like the problem could be one of a few things.

It is possible that there is something in your turn signal switch that is faulty, or causing a connection. Ie) It is dirty, needs a cleaning or some how there may be something metallic in there making a connection.

A second option it could be is you may have a short in your electrical system somewhere. Hopefully this is not the case.

A third option is that your relays for your turn signals could be on their way out. However your signal light just suddenly turning on would not really explain this, but it would explain the sticking and not clicking.

A fourth option is that your alternator/battery may not be producing the required charge. This would only help explain the sticking and not clicking as this would have no direct effect on turning the signal light on them selves.

Finally check your turn signal bulbs. Make sure they are still good and are not broken. If both are broken and not making contact this will cause your signal light to stick on inside the dash and not click as the circut is not complete back to the relay. Again this would have no effect on your signal lights just suddenly turning on.

Hope this helps.

this is happening to me too! sometimes it'll blink normally, then it will just stop and stay on. then a bit later it'll go back to normal. completely random.

i think i'll check the connection at the end of the stalk. it's annoying when it stays solid, i have to blink it by hand.

Sounds to me like your multi-function switch in your steering column is fucked. Pull the bottom cover off your steering column and the multi-function switch is the black "box" at the end of your turn signal arm with your wiper controls and all that shit on it.

Check your turn signal relay too. If you turn on your signal, you should hear it clicking. It will be a round "cylindrical" looking piece under the dash on the left side somewhere.
