| hi jus want an opinion from u guys, it is alright to get ur stock rims painted?? i have the stock 9 or 10 spoke rims but a poor college student as well, and i'm jus wondering if it'll be a good idea. how much will it cost?? =) |

| I don't think it will look very good...you could try, but at the end your still just gonna have 15" rims |

If you want them to last awhile, get them sandblasted and powder coated. I had a set of mags done 7 years ago and the coating is still good.. and that is with 'spirited' driving on gravel roads. They are not something I'd take to a show.. but they are durable.
I used to know "this guy" at an industrial coatings place who did mine.. for $30 a wheel, but that was a long time ago.. so I'd think you are probably looking at $50 and up depending on the coating. Of course I could be full of $hit and it might be more..

| haha matt painted his nice rims though, lol...didn't turn out bad from what i can tell in the dark though |

| is it worth it to be done in canadian tire??? i think i need them powdercoated, not jus painted. don't want the color to come off jus from a curb rash lol, and normally how long would it take for them to do this?? waiting for it to dry etc etc?? |
|
|
| redwall177 |
| haha powercoat will come off if you curb rash them and it drys really fast can be done in like 3 hours all for wheel |
|
|
| mike3 |
| powdercoating takes longer than that matt. and no matter if you powdercoat them, or paint them, if you hit a curb it'll come off and look like crap...just be careful. |

i say it will take 3 hours with the canadian paint not powered coating
are you coming out tonite |
|

| well i'm guessing powder coating them will stay on longer than jus paint?? what's a good color to go with red? |
|
|
| mike3 |
| i'll have to think about it, but maybe a gun metal. |

The advantage to powdercoating is that it is baked onto the surface and forms a good bond. When stones hit the coating, they can mark it down to the metal and the coating will still stick.. With paint, water can work its way in under the paint .. just look at the clearcoat on the stock wheels after a few winters.
I guess it depends on how long you will be using those wheels.

| well i dunno, i jus don't feel like goin thru the trouble to changing wheels between summer and winter, i was thinking maybe 16s with all season tires, but then again i'll have my stock ones sitting in the garage takin up space.... |

powder coating them is probably the best way to paint rims as mentioned by others.
I had an extra set of stock blades, spent $30 at walmart for the rim paint(prolly the same stuff at can tire)
I like it, its almost a gunmetal color
heres a crappy side pic: side view
Its ghetto, but just sets me apart from the other ludes till I grab me a proper set of rims
I've been running with them all summer without a scratch of paint coming off.. benefit is, if I ever to scratch a rim, or the clear coat fades off.. its $7 to repaint the tire.
hardest part was using metal sandpaper and sanding them down through the clearcoat.. damn that was a bitch.
my 2cents from the 204 crew =]
Cheers,
Alpha
