NECC Track Days - Click HERE for Original Thread

DeathBy240

Sunday, October 2nd and Sunday October 9th
8:30 a.m.
Namao (see map below)
$35 for official NECC members
$45 for all non-members

Pricing for BOTH events are as follows:
$60 for official NECC members
$80 for all non-members

Namao Map

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, no reservations. There will be a 20 car maximum for each day so register early.

All drivers will receive burgers, hot dogs and pop and we will be setting up some entertainment for when you aren't driving.

Also we will be looking for people to marshall when not driving.

The track will be more open and flowing and will have less hard corners than an autoX course, however we would like to ask that there is no intentional drifting on the track, or in surrounding areas.

Cars need to be registered ASAP. Late registered cars may not be admitted to the base. The event staff can be provided with a complete list so they know who is coming late - but they reserve the right to refuse entry to those who aren't properly pre-registered.

We have the track from 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM. If everyone gets their ass in gear and we tech and do the driver's meeting by 9AM, that means 8 full hours of lapping goodness.

Guests are welcome and free but they must be register with us as well before the deadline, so we can register you with the base.

Here is the proposed track layout. We will be opening it up more that the last event, but top speeds will not exceed 110km/h

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event, please post here or PM me.

Transporter
how is this a lapping event the tarck starts and stops it is not continous

SRBURG13
We're slowly going to be implementing a change of title. We still call is our Hot Lapping day because that was the orginal idea for the event. Things changed, but the title didn't. lol.

DeathBy240
Yeah, at this point we dont have the software running for our timing gear to get more than one car on the track at a time. But like Aaron said, that was the original intention of previous events, and we didnt update the name change on the maps, etc.

JustinL
Can someone confirm that my payment arrived?

Thanks guys,

Justin

PyreXXX
We may be able to run more than one car on track this time. I managed to find a program that will run multiple cars, but I need to test it on a laptop and I don't have one, so stay tuned. :)

DeathBy240
Yeah, Justin we rec'd your payment.

jars1000
you guys should really change the track up. It gets boring to run the same track all the time. Well, thats just my opinion.

Let me know if the track will be the same for the events. I'd like to know before I register.

Thanks!

DeathBy240
It will be different, we're definately going to open it up more. I dont see why we cant mix it up a little bit to keep it fresh.

You should set it up............and run it a couple of times.

And then take out the slow spots. :D

CanadianR
Just trying to decide which day to sign up for. There seems to be an ASA event at Namao on the 2nd as well, though they are usually run in the same area as your event is being held. If there's an ASA event that day i'll have to sign up for the 9th so my wife and i can do the ASA event.

What happens in the event of snow? Is the event cancelled and money refunded, or is it still run?

DeathBy240
I'll call the base tomorrow. I have a confirmation letter in front of me for that date, but I will double check. We are not planning on snow, as it doesnt usually fly until later in October.

If there is rain the event will go on. If for some reason we do cancel the event because of snow refunds will be given.

power courses are less fun than skill courses.... And puts everyone on an even playing field. You guys should throw in a real slalom somewhere in a less open part.....have a little bit of both power and skill course.

Fun ......I guess is a matter of opinion. :D

But implying that they are not skill courses.....

For me if you have to even think or ponder the idea of having to drop into 1st gear....... its a little too slow.

Nothing wrong with a fast slalom. There are enough auto-x's running at Griesbach that you can practice your 'skills on'.

If you have the chance of running on a larger venue. Take advantage of it.

jars1000
ah, i c what you mean. No, I don't want anything that drops into first either, I hate that a lot. You can still have a tight course at high speeds.

DeathBy240
Spots are filling up fairly quickly, even though the event is in October!

Don't forget, the snow doesnt usually fall for another few weeks after the events, but it will be a nice and cool for your turbos!

CanadianR
Well, it appears i'm busy for the Oct 2 event, which is the day i wanted to come. Just signed up for the 9th though:thumbup:

DeathBy240
Sorry guys, Namao has cancelled the 9th on us. We will likely be rebooking for the following Sunday.

silvia s13
They cancelled because it is a long weekend...

JustinL
I'll be in for the reschedule if it happens, if not I'll pick up my refund at the next event.

A properly set up autox course, flowing should never drop into first gear IMHO. If so its too tight in that spot.

My car does +60Km/hour at the top of 1st gear .... and tops out ~110km/hr in 2nd.........

So as you can see I prefer to keep the road courses over 60Km/hour.

I would say 50% percent of the auto-x courses I have run are way out of the efficiency range of the car.

Its a fine line modulating full boost between 3K and 6800 rpm....

My car is very difficult to drive a low speeds. The wheels will let loose on 1st/2nd on a blink.

lovemytrx
I can understand what you are saying Alex. I think there needs to be a happy compromise of high speed, low speed and technical aspects of a course to represent all types of cars and there attributes.

Yup... I agree....

And I find the Nissan's with all the swaps/conversions......... Appreciate the extra room to open it up as well.

We have enough slower events every weekend of the year

:D

JustinL
I prefer the higher speed events too. I don't mind tight corners, just not strung together where you have to toss the car back and forth. Personally, I think the closer we can get to a real road course the better. That's what the NECC guys were aiming for when they originally came up with the idea, but ended up having to conform to autocross rules.

The nice thing about the NECC course is that I don't have to worry about my brakes overheating :)

lovemytrx
I like throwing the car around from corner to corner but it will be interesting to se how competitive I can be on a more open flowing course.

CanadianR
Is the event full for the 2nd yet? If not, i sent my registration info in for the 9th before i found out it was cancelled; please use the same info to register me for the 2nd if it's not too late. I will setup payment as soon as i get a response. Thanks.

DeathBy240
I'll let Kris know of the change. We still have a few spots open.

PyreXXX
Yeah, I only have 2 spots max left. Canadian R, you're on the list - I sent a confirmation email to you.

noriceforme
does any one know if onthe 16th there will be a event?

Not an NECC event...

noriceforme
so then theres just the one track day on the 2nd correct, and i assume its all filled?

PyreXXX
Yeah, it is as of now.

Thanks to all who signed up. WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ANY NEW REGISTRATIONS.

However, if you wanna come check out what all the fuss is about, feel free to register as a spectator! :D

ae1969
Its gonnnnnnnnnnnnna be cold....

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..

I wonder if they would mind us making a fire on the base. :D

Nightstalker
Make sure you bring out your wet tires boys and girls.. This should be interesting.

I am a believer of

'run what you drive'

Mud and Snow tires for me. LOL

I am getting the chills just thinking about tomorrow...... BRRRRRRRRR

bigmack000
i got the ice tracks on lol

bigmack000
good show to the necc guys was a fun time .

my times in ym stock 88 crx si were

lap
1. 1:35:xx
2. 1:31:xx
3. 1:27:xx
4. 1:28:xx

i think i did pretty good :D wasn't to far behind some other cars.

can't wait for next season :D

Nightstalker
honda > nissan. Thank you to the ITR for making sure its true yet again. Also, I was very glad to see the skylines that came out actually getting pushed for once. :D

bigmack000
lol yeah the itr was ripping some nice lap times :)

silvia s13
I had a great time!! Besides the COLD!! Go canada

His best was 1:11, very impressive. Events like this are based a lot on driver skill, and a good suspension really helps too :p

crazy240sx
i'm just really happy it was warm out  but it was fun to watch, some of you guys can really drive, especially Nis240 and the integra

PyreXXX
For sure!

Thanks to all that came out to the event, and especially thanks to all the drivers who were patient when our timing gear went south on us for a bit there.

lovemytrx
Great event and the food was appreciated.

Just a suggestion or a thought. Although timing equipment is great feedback on ones progress, I wouldnt have minded running some laps without times, just to keep things moving along. Standing around in the cold can be frustrating at times. Once again a great event and I'm glad I came out.

Beware the power of the Matrix.

Kudos to Shane in the ITR for ripping it up. Best mod anybody can make to a car is improve the driver.

I'll look forward to your events next year.:D

CanadianR
Thanks for an excellent event guys. The course was fun and it was a fun, laidback day. I'm looking forward to more of these next year. One thing i could suggest you guys is maybe to try putting chalk box outlines around the cones, just to make it a little easier for guys marshalling to figure out where to put the cones back. Some of the cooler things from today: driving the course at low speed instead of walking it, and the "slow-down box" instead of stopbox:thumbup: I liked the BBQ idea too

ChromeDragon
T'was a fun event. I think that with dual timing equipment it would be even better.

Nightstalker
I will attempt to get the in car video of the buick off my camera tonight some time.

ae1969
Thanks once again for having the event.

These are not easy to plan and run......but you guys are doing a very good job managing the sheer size of the course you layed out.

Hope to see you guys next year.

------

Thanks Silvia S13 for the shot of my car. It is my new desktop. Appreciate it.

silvia s13
No worries man

PyreXXX
Thanks for the suggestions on improvements, guys!

I know priority #1 is to get more cars out on track at once so people aren't waiting so much. And I actually suggested the "fun run" idea to keep things moving along, but others didn't feel that it would be a particularily good idea. So I guess next year we'll just have to make sure our shit works right off the bat, eh? :D

As for drawing chalk around the placed cones - we actually did that at the last event but Aaron didn't do it at this one. Not sure why, but I certainly appreciate the suggestion. :)

Times will be up tomorrow - sorry for the delay. ;)

icydude
I was happy to be the jet plane sounding laughing stock

Thanks alot to the Co-ordinators of the event, I wish i could have been there earlier and stayed later but the project car was calling.

SRBURG13
Ya, it was some good times.

Thanks to all those that attended.

We'll have some more events next year for sure.

No chalk around the cones, because there was no chalk. lol.

Nis24O
The RESULTS are up on NECC.com.

Congratulations CanadianR and lovemytrx , hope to see you out at more of our events. Its always nice to have the N/A cars kick some ass.

PyreXXX
Yeah - wow.

I was especially impressed by the Matrix - that's a seriously quick car on the track! :D

JustinL
I was reasonably pleased with the performance of "old red". I'd never spun that car before and I managed to do it twice in one day :(

Once again the event was well run. Maybe next year with new software you could run a 2 lap timed run and get 2 cars on the course.

lovemytrx
It was a great time and I'll definitely make sure to save space on my calendar for the NECC events. Only one regret I have is 6 more months till we can do this again. I cant say enough about how much fun I had with you guys. All the different cars as well. You guys need to come on out to the ASA events when you have a chance as well.

That's what hunks of drywall are for Aaron!

Well, if I had that in my garage, I would have brought it. lol.

Don't forget fwd N/A cars:D I can say for sure you will see more of us next year. We both had a really good time, and like TRX said, it's just too bad we gotta wait another six months to do it again.

If you guys start running more than one car at a time, there will be some more complications ie) you'll need to have a radio for all Marshalls and we'll have to make sure there are as many marshalls as possible to be able to stop a car if the car ahead has spun out and not gotten going again quickly enough (you may even want to buy a few red flags to stop cars with). Running multiple cars at this last event would have been difficult with the slippery conditions and so many spinouts. You may experience a few growing pains, as it's more complicated to run more than one car; but if you make it work there will be alot of runs for everyone out there. And if you keep the fun factor high and allow for alot of runs i think these events will be very popular:thumbup:

Those that enjoyed the event and are feeling hooked, i urge you to come out and try some ASA events as well. The overall top speeds might not be quite as high, but the courses take about as long and cover almost as much ground. And you shouldn't ever have to drop into first gear out there:)

That was some great smooth driving out there CanadianR. Very nice to see how smoothly you run the course......

We run two cars in PCA....... It is a 2 lap course at Namao with the second car starting when the first is halfway through the second lap.

It is a SMOOOOTH Setup.... We run 6 times easily by 1 pm! None stop.....

Whats funnly I ran 1:18 the one lap at NECC and in PCA I ran ~1:06 for TWO laps. LOL

PyreXXX
The main difference is insurance. We looked at doing a higher speed event but the insurance required was way too expensive. Initially, we wanted to keep the costs of the events relatively low while we get some experience running events and figuring out who is serious about lapping. Then we can get into the really fun stuff... :D

qualthar
It's good to see bigger & better plans for next year. I'm definitely looking forward to the spring thaw

We have all winter to come up with more great ideas and get a good game plan in order. I'll help out with whatever I can, even if it's just trying to light the stupid BBQ

Are the ASA events an autocross? I don't know how my heavy beast would fare on a tight track like that, but I'm definitely up for giving it a shot. For me, it's all about going out and having fun :D

It's actually 1:46 on the for two laps on the pca course because your time was actually 106 seconds.

icydude
NECC should be building a ice racer for winter events.....haha

keep us entertained.

qualthar
That's what your winter beater is for :D I'll be out in full force in the Celica

One of the top guys with ASA used to run a Nissan Maxima at the events and clean up. So as for heavy beast, not an issue IMHO.

Have fun and improve the driver and watch peoples jaws drop.:)

The NECC event was also considered an autocross (Solo II) event. This makes for much cheaper insurance for an event, as top speeds for a Solo II event aren't supposed to go above 110kph. So this was just a little higher-speed autocross than is typical for the ASA events and a little more open ie) more time between areas where you have to turn. Getting into higher speed courses is then considered Solo I and had different rules for safety etc. and costs alot more for insurance, i gather.

As for how your car would fare; while it may not be THE optimal car for an autocross, i think it can still do quite well. Two experienced drivers at ASA (Ian and Markis) consistently set ftd in an STi that is stock other than aftermarket wheels and r-compound tires. The STi is a bit heavier than an R32 GT-R, i believe, so i would think the Skyline could be a pretty good autocross car.

Wow, this sounds promising:thumbup: With Race City officially closing, i'm hoping road racing/lapping/Solo I type stuff here will become a little more popular and the guys running Bud Park will get off their asses and pave that road course so we can do these things out there someday.

Since we are talking about road courses...... (I would love to see one in my lifetime in Edmonton)

I finally transferred some video from the PCA auto-x to my computer...

Lousy editing but it works.

This is the PCA autox at Namao....

From what i understand they will officially be closed, but you will likely still be able to rent the track, so Solo I events and lapping days etc. will still go on there.

qualthar
Alex that PCA video was pretty cool, I like the bumper cam

That track looks pretty fun, I'd definitely like to get out next year and get as much track time as I can :D
