Check Engine Light - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ajit Nakhwa
So my check engine light is on.....

According to a paper clip, its problem 21. Oxygen Sensor Signal or Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit.

Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks.

TurboMR2
replace your o2 sensor? :dunno:

Ajit Nakhwa
Hmm, anything else? See the thing is it happened as soon as I installed the intake.

way2fast
Ajit, try resetting the light and see if it comes back on. also pull you battery for a few minutes. ive heard of cars getting kind of whacky when the v/e of an engine is changed. if that doesn't work let me know.

Ajit Nakhwa
Thanks buddy, i`m gonna disconnect the batts and try and clean my MAF too see if that makes a difference!

Ajit Nakhwa
Well, did the batts and MAF, check engine light is still on......

way2fast
you'll have to reset the engine light. it stays on until you wipe it from the cars cpu.

RDS Celica
estentially, dissconnecting the battery and pulling the EFI fuse does the same thing, cuts power to the ECU.

unfortunately your o2 sensor might just be pooched... i wouldnt necessarily think your intake has something to do with it, might just be coincidence that it decided to shit the bed on you at that moment after you installed it....

hopefully im wrong tho!

way2fast
Taking the battery off will reset the computer but MIL codes will remain unless they're reset. you might be able to get away with "playing the drums", but you might need a code reader to reset it. once its been reset see if it comes on again. when it came on the first time it was telling you something, its going or it cooked already. depending when it was replaced last (or ever) it could be due, iirc they're about 100k miles for replacement, thats about 160k for us.

Ajit Nakhwa
Thanks for the info ladies. i`ll redo the batts, otherwise, the O2 Sensor can wait till next season!

Ajit Nakhwa
Confirmed O2 Sensor. Will be replacing next season.

Any ideas on where to get a good one and pricing? Thanks.

Heeter
Hi Ajit,

There are generic ones available, There usually about $30.

Available at partsource.

Ajit Nakhwa
So why did Toy quaote me $260 installed????

Nonetheless, is a geenric one just as good as a Toy one? If the price diff is minimal, might opt for the Toy one.

i just looked at my o2sensor. dont look hard at at all.
2bolts and clip harness, maybe some spray to loosen the bolts and possibly hightemp silicone.

tell me how much the oem and generic piece cost, i'll do mine at the same time.

Hmmm, okay, it would have to be next week sometime, or even next weekend. Or, possibly this Sunday. I am in Calgary Friday, and coming back Saturday, if u wanna do it on Sunday, would u mind picking up the sensors, and then I`ll just pay u back?

SilviaDrifter
i have a solution for ur problem
get a mazda...rotary perferably

Ajit Nakhwa
Mazda sucks balllllzzzzzzzzzzz deep! Lol!

Phoned Partsource, O2 sensor is $240. Does this sound right?

Heeter
It sounds right for a direct replacement, not for a generic one.

I will phone my bud at a parts place.
