Im thinkin either Early gen civic 79 civic ish ( already had one ) but more so im thinking a Datsun 510 or a Datsun 280.
With the 280 i get more engine room but i like the look of the 510 as well. SO im just askin for thoughts and opinions. Its goin to be a track / street car. Not my daily driver. I want it to go like stink and look alright. Thats why im leanin away from the datsun 510 cause that will need extensive body work but probably same goes for the 280.
So yeah any suggestions on engine swaps on either of them or a push in the right direction would be great.
So datsun 510 or 280 thx :D |

Track?
What kind of track?
Road Course?
Drag strip?
As I usually say, figure out your goals & where you want to head with this project & you'll have a better idea of where to start. |

| Dropping a 5.0l into a datsun would be cool if it fit. I love the Datsun 510 . Bulletproof car. i have yet to find one for sale that wasn't totally beat up. |

Drag and track use. Like a road course . Will do a couple BC hill challenges, nothin huge. But i just want it setup as a cornerin car unlike a daily drive which u dont have as low or setup so much so for the track . thats why im leanin 510 or old civic but a 280 has good potential too.
This is why im askin for ideas so then i can piece it all together |

i doubt it woudl fit. to fit a v8 with a usdm tranny the shifter would be somewhere in the backseat. ive never seen it done before to a 510 and for the most part youd ruinin the whole chemistry of the car like weight transfer and it would be a total pig upfront.
a v8 in a 240/260/280 on the other hand has been done more then once(there is one in boumont i know of). theres also a couple of vids on the net of v8 Z`s.
good luck with your decision. |

If you are looking for ideas, how about an FD/LS1 combo... Incredible looks and performance with torque and longevity. And if I were to build a SBC, it would be a Gen III or Gen IV... its the way the whole GM aftermarket is going and parts are becoming cheap. Plus the EFI.
Troll around this site, its pretty convincing.

Good luck. |

| How about a 302 powered miata? Or if an fd is out of your price range, a sbc powered fc. |
