I'm beginning to do some research into replacement tires but have come across a small dilemma.
That is whether I should pick up 1 set of tires for both street & autocross/track action or get 2 dedicated sets.
1 set would mean something along the lines of the new Falken Azenis, Kumho MXs or maybe even Potenza S-03s (I wish).
2 sets would push me towards high performance all seasons & a separate set of R-Compounds (Yokohama A-032Rs?).
This way the infrequent replacement of All Seasons would (or SHOULD) offset the cost of the more frequent replacement of R-compounds.
Or I could just track & daily drive the R-compounds.....hmmm......:cool: |

It depends on your $ situation. If you have lots of it, then go for R compounds + summer tires. If not, then do the dual duty option. Driving on Rs all around is just silly haha.
The thing you've got to remember about high performance all seasons is that they are good for nothing. Do you plan on winter driving on these hi-po all seasons? If not, then why not get all out summer tires? But then, you run into the problem of them wearing down quick. Even my stupid Kumho 712s seem to be down to 50% after one summer.
I don't think I've really pointed you in a certain direction here, but I hope I've given you a bit of food for thought. Maybe something to chew over. Don't let it gnaw at you. It'll come back to bite you in the ass. Ok it's late, bye. |

| if it was me, and money wasn't tight, i'd get azenis on a seperate set of cheap alluminum 14's for auto-x, and potenza's for the street.. but i'm not a tire expert, just speaking from others experiences. |

Even if cash is fairly tight, in the end, dedicated sets don't cost you any more money. Since you only use them for half the year, they should last twice as long.
And get those winters studded. ;) |

I made the descision this year to run one set of tires on my Miata, Toyo RA-1. I got the tires used and they are basically a slick with 4(ish) groves left. I wanted to run R-compound tires for Autocross but didn't have a second pair of rims handy. I don't drive my Miata that much on the street anymore, probably less than 5K this year.
The tires have held up surprisingly well, and aside from standing water work well in most conditions.
I'd NEVER do this again however. My paint is sandblasted down the rocker panels on the front of the car. r's pickup everything on the road and shoot it up into the wheel wells.
Good idea? Not really. Being a poseur? Not at all.

I've actually found that this happened with my Azenis' as well.
After 3 autocross events, totally sandblasted look.

It's way worse with R's. I ran Azenis last year and autocrossed a lot. Once I get the paint fixed I'm investing in mud flaps! Either that or painter's tape at events :(
