Hey everybody, need some advice on what` the heck is going on.
Driving home yesterday, and I noticed that my engine continued to rev after I took it out of gear, and when it was in gear, it would continue to accelerate.
Had to do an emergency drop off at Sun Toyota.
Both times, I had my foot off the accelerator. Freaked me out when I tried to stop, and vehicle did not stop.
Has this ever happend too anybody before?
Some advice on what the hell is happening! |

Stuck throttle cable - Did you notice if the pedal was returning up when you lifted your foot? Or did it stay down?
Stuck TPS - Did the check engine light come on during this. usually the check engine light will come on if the TPS is out of parameter.
Stuck AIC - I don't know if the second gens had rad fluid controlled AIC. that might be the issue if you have an air bubble stuck in the AIC. Will trigger the check engine light if out of parameter.

If I may hazard a guess,
I will say that you have a stuck throttle cable or throttle cable linkage.

My check engine lite is on, but it came on after I installed the new intake.
I really really hope it is the cable, as that is a minor fix.
I did not notice the gas pedal staying stuck as I was more worried about my car continuing too accelerate when I was trying to avoid nailing the car infront of me! Lol!!
Thanks for the info Helder, I appreciate it. I will def let u guys know what I find out.
I am praying that it is the cable though! Supposedly an easy fix. |

Just got a call from the Dealership...it is the throttle cable...$435 to fix, and they don`t even have the damn part!! Ouch! |

| 435? wtf... thats quite a bit man, but I wouldnt be surprised cause its a dealership after all, if you go to a shop rather then a dealership then it would probably be a lot cheaper.... |

Actually, JP recommended that shop. Terence's a good guy that knows MR2 :D

Thanks for the info. Part has been ordered already. Plus, its not dirvable, so its sitting at the dealership until the part comes in on Monday. So even if the part was available at TT, I wouldn`t be able to take my vehicle there for install.
I will have to pay a visit to Terence sometime though. Thanks again for the info! :-) |
