Here is an option to the street racing scene. This is a quote from the Bud Park website. I don't know if anyone even knew this was available but it is.

"Did you know that you can rent the Bud Park drag strip for your own private test and tune! Now that the schedule for 2003 is tentatively set, we are accepting rental bookings for next season. All track rentals are set-up as single lane, one car at a time events. The Compulink Timing System is placed in auto-mode and the ET printer is placed at the starting line so your crew has instant results from each pass. You are responsible for having an individual to operate the tree and provide water for the burnout procedures. The EMT crew will be on hand to serve as your emergency personnel. All track rentals begin at 9AM and must be completed by 5PM. In the event of inclement weather, your rental will be scheduled for the next available date. Track rentals must be secured with a credit card."

STANDARD TRACK RENTAL INCLUDES:
- Hourly Rate of $150/hour with a 4 hour minimum
- Up to 10 Cars
- One (1) Lane sprayed 200ft
- Insurance
- Ambulance
- EMT Personnel

EXTENDED TRACK RENTAL OPTIONS:
The following prices are additional charges that will be applied to the standard hourly rate for a track rental.
- Additional Cars (11-25) $60/hour additional with 4 hour minimum
- Add a second lane for $50 per hour!!
- Half Track Spray of VHT- $300/lane
- Full Track Spray of VHT- $600/lane

As an example: 25 vehicles w/ 2 lanes for 4 hours would cost $42 / car. Just something to think about ...

Okay ... paint me w/ a capital "L" for LOSER. I Just noticed the posting about May 18th & Sept 21st being V8less Challenge Cup at Bud Park. I guess the membership already knew about this option. Who knows ... maybe there's another date people would like to use to have a semi-private get together.

Jimbo -_-

Personally I think my gtec and a nice straight piece of road with no traffic on it is more cost effective.. $200 once and unlimited passes..

Agreed, but what would the police do if they caught us in the act of testing with our G-Tech's?

Its probably worse than being pulled over for speeding, and having your radar detector in plain view.

Has anyone actually tried using a G-tech at the track??? How do they actually work?

Loose
I saw a guy run the G-Tech is his car at the track:

G-Tech#: 12.65 @ 126.5
Track #: 12.67 @ 116.5

So, what's up with the 10mph difference?!? Time seems very accurate.

Some of the difference is attributed to the way the numbers are calculated.

The track uses timing lights, and your "trapspeed" is actually your AVERAGE speed over the last 60 feet of distance.

Whereas your G-Tech being an accelerometer is measuring acceleration and time, and derives distance and velocity mathematically. What the G-Tech gives you for "trapspeed" is your ACTUAL speed at the 1/4 mile point. That's why the G-Tech's number will always be higher for trapspeed.

You could argue that the G-Tech is actually more accurate for the trapspeed than the track method, however everyone uses their timeslips at the track as the common benchmark for comparison.

BTW - The V8less Track days are complete track rentals and are open to the public (ie they are not semi-private)

I keep track of my 1/4 mile times in my palm pilot from my gtec and just keep a running set of numbers with a personal best and stuff like that.. its works fine IMO as long as you can make 2 or 3 runs in both directions without getting caught.. 91st street from 23rd to 28th is my personal favorite strip to do it on.. if you go all the way to 34th you have to worry about the red light camera there..

"Nonono, Officer, it's okay, I'm speeding because I'm testing my Gtech <thumbs up> No problems here"

<Said from a moving car>

Nightstalker
