does anybody know whether u can swap a honda motor into a neon, i feel like a dork cause everybody i roll with drives a honda, plus im starting to think my 2.0 L SOHC motor's not gonna cut it down the road if i ever get boosted. Oh, and whats everybody saying about me on these forums, i heard i upset some people by drifting in the South Common and Crappy Tire parking lots, when the yellow beamer, older rx-7 and the green integra did the same thing, what the hells with that?

Welcome to the boards. I know absolutely nothing about Neons or Hondas

As far as the drifting goes, I don't remember anyone talking about you. Also, just because other people are doing it, doesn't mean it's ok :p Long story short, they're giving the rest of us a bad name.

:blue:

Coconut84
hahahahaha u can swap a pt cruiser engine in there instead or even an srt4 motor, when one becomes avaliable. if u want reliability by a honda outrite.

95neon
yeah, i thought about putting an srt4 engine in, but i wanna do all the modifications myself, the reason why i didnt buy an srt4 in the first place

SaabKraft
my friend has a 95 neon, and he thinks the best thing to do is swap in the 2.4 turbo from the PT cruiser, and get the 6 speed transmission and drive-shafts. that'd haul ass.

the engine mounting, electronics and accomodating/mounting new filters, fluid tanks, etc from a honda into a neon is a HUUUGE hassle. don't even bother.

95neon
does the 2.4 liter fit, and as far as the hassle, i heard the 2.4 L is just as big of a hassle

90teg
OMG

Swap in the 2.4 turbo. then go from their.
lol dont ever say "put a honda motor in your neon"

SaabKraft
brutal honesty: engine swaps are practically worthless on domestic econoboxes. for how much time and money it'll take, you'd be better off buying a better platform.

reminds me of an episode of... tuner tranformation? where they put in a toyota truck engine, driveshaft and rear diff into a FWD paseo, to make it a 'drifter'.

it was probably worse to drive after than before.

even if you do get the motor in, the car will start to fall apart in a few years anyway. it's a '95 SOHC neon, maybe even an automatic.

please. sell and start with a better platform. i'm half speaking from experience here. and tons of hours on various car BB's

SketchifisT
You have a neon, if u wanna get cute go the 2.4 L turbo, a guy Adam just ran a 12, No matter what you do it will be a hassle, i would vote get something else ifu wanna do it all yourself OR yeah get really cute.

My suggestion if u wanna do it yourself, Buy a SRT4 tune it up run a 12 buy something COMPLETELY Different that has more potential and options and rebuild that ( example an older classic or even just a Datsun 280 or 510 or something )

otherwise u are kinda stuck for options.

rexxrally
Lots of people have put 2.4's in Neons. Some have turbocharged them, too. There's one guy who runs 9's in his turbo 2.4 Neon.

It's considerably easier to drop that engine into your Neon than a Honda engine (all different computers and connections, forget it).

It's more expensive to sell your car and buy something else that will beat a 2.4 litre Neon.

95neon
ok, i wanna say something before u guys think im an even bigger loser than u already do, i dont think im cool because i drive a neon or even that i can fit in with all the imports, but there is a reason why i drive a neon, i dont have enough money to drive something else, or i would be in a honda, so im just wondering what i can do to it without buying another platform to work on.

rexxrally
There's nothing wrong with a Neon. I've got one myself and I love it! At the last dirt autoslalom at Bud Park, the only guy to beat me in my stock Neon is a fully-prepared rally car driven by a seed 2 driver.

It's a fast little car, with a race-built tranny, 4 wheel independent suspension, some have 4 wheel disk brakes, some have front and rear swaybars (which can be installed really cheap if you don't have them), and lots of hp can be dropped in relatively cheap. The car's cheap to buy and cheap to maintain, and mine gets 48MPG on the highway doing 125kmph!

People (like you and me) who've got a Neon love them, and everybody turns their noses up at them, but who cares? The more people turn their noses up at them, the cheaper the cars get, and like I said, I still beat them at the track where it counts.

There's lots of mods that you can make to your Neon, one mod at a time as you have the money. There's a lot of expert guys here in Edmonton that I can put you in touch with, to modify your Neon, as you get the money to do it.

Adam
Cost of 2.4 block -- 600

everything else for swap I already had in my car...the only thing in my car that is 2.4 is the block...everything else is neon. Trans, head , axles, electronics all work together from years 95 -01 for dodge 2.0 sohc, 2.0 dohc and all 2.4 dohc motors. Also, my car is not a PT or SRT motor..its a 2001 PT N/A block. This swap is very easy with minimal wiring and motor mount issues. Very cheap.

To put the 2.4 turbo form a PT or SRT is a much more expensive way to go.

Also, I've had this motor for the last 3 years and is not falling apart and is not/ was not a hassle to do.

I can answer all of your questions first hand, and I talk from absolute experience...no one on this board can even come close to me and neons.

For more info go to www.neons.org and go to the forums there. You'll find answers for anything and everything and about 6 guys in the 9's and at least 12 in the 10's with street driven econobox neons.

And finally .... no you should not put a honda motor in your neon!

95neon
hey man, thatd be wiked if u could hook me up with those guys, i mean, the guys i work with are really good in understanding the fact that i'm poor (lol) and they're all mechanics so they know whats good as far as mods go, but they all own imports and that doesnt help me. And as far as what ive got in my car, thats pretty much what ive been doing, putting mods into it whenever i get the money, and it goes pretty good for the amount of money i've put in it, just ask the dude with the green integra with juice, he wasn't laughing when i beat him.

gab
i'd say stick to domestics.........throw a cadillac northstar motor in it...........makes little cars haul ass!!!

Honda_Finatic
personally.... i think a honda engine should stay in a honda/acura vehicle. They are really good engines.... if you're leaning towards playing with a honda engine... just sell your neon and buy the honda. A honda engine in a neon even sounds funny if you ask me.

gab
i have a buddy that put a northstar motor in an a2 golf.....it is awesome, but the best part is he can piss off vw guys and domestic guys at the same time.......it was great cuz he couldn't go to v8less......so i say do whatever squirts your pickle, in a hobby where standing out is key........you may just have the right idea

Shady_Pro
please don't bastardize the honda name

please:mad: :thumbdown

gab
see, it's already working!!!!! lets hear that v-tec kickin in on a neon........:blue:

You could put a skyline engine in there if you wanted it just takes alot of fabrication and nowhow so yes you could put a honda engine in there Im sure there piddly lil things anyways so Im sure it wouldnt be that hard.

gab
good point, i know a guy selling a fwd sr20det

notaturbotalon
How long is this going to go on for, if you're stupid enough to try any of these in your bitchin' neon, you're too stupid to pull any of them off. Case closed.

gab
there ya go............even more reason to do it.....he's challenging you man!!!!

You've come very close to breaking 1 of them already, which is:

1) There will not be any posts promoting street racing and/or any related topics.

Let's start off on a better foot, Adam has the resources & know-how to help you make your neon VERY fast.

Keep it at the track & off the streets.

OK, is it just me that thinks all you guys have been had by a master, or are all of you in on the joke?

This is good, really, really, good.

How to pull everyones chain at once 101

1. Bring up the idea of a cross-factory swap between two of the most contentious makes. Just mentioning "Neon" or "Honda" brings out a chorus of bitching.

2. Claim a Neon won't go fast when everyone knows how fast that Adam was on the weekend at SCC.

3. Confess to the lamest of street stunting acts that has got members in hot water with the popo and rat out some well known 780 cars at the same time.

As a follow up, contradict yourself on every post. Congrats 95neon, you have them all going.

Or, if I am wrong, and you are for real, well,   .

Im still trying to figure out what would make anyone want to swap a honda motor in a dodge or anything for that matter. I have a turbo accord and Im in the middle of building my wife one. The only thing I gotta say is its not worth it. I have mine because I love my car to death I have had it for years and my wife well now that I know so much about the car and can fix anything with it wanted one to. My car is WWD and will never break any records will be pretty quick/fast but I would never do another honda for myself or any FWD for that matter.

gab
yeah i'm from a backasswards place that does stupid things like automotive gene splicing. different, yes. out of the question, nope.

lol in edmonton people talk about swapping honda motors into neons. In places like texas or LA they talk about swapping 2JZ's into FD's.

I know thats off topic put i think its kinda funny.

oldraven
I think you should strap a Brigs & Stratton on each wheel. Four engine fully indpenedant Four Wheel Drive!
