Today i got my 1986 Corolla GTS i bought it for around $425 with the price of the tow from calgary to here so it was a very good deal to say the least.

The engine was fucked cause i was under the impression that the #4 cylinder spark plug holder was stripped out and needed to be rebored....but to my and my friends amazement only the ceramic white part of the plug was broken.

So we got some new platinum tipped spark plugs and she started right up, ran rough untill the oil in the cylinder was all burned up.

The guy i bought it from has all the records from when he bought it back in 1992 and it has a pretty good service history i even think it was bored 0.02 mm and the valves polished.:dunno:. there is some rust but not more then i suspected under the front and rear quarter panel mouldings.

front

front right side

same side again

rear quarter shot with the ususal rust

rusted GTS:mad:

and now the engine before we put the new spark plugs in...took me around 45 minutes to clean it...the whole cam cover was covered in oil but now shes purty:thumbup:

good stuff
nice car man

dance_of_curse
thanks just need it to get fixed and then im happy cause there no power steering and no heat/fan or something and then the brakes need to be redone so itll be a month or two before i get her on the road legaly:p

street_racer101
thats pretty sweet, i seen a nice corolla cept hatchback downtown today...i've always loved those little cars.

dance_of_curse
yeah i know im in the middle of tearing it down to bare metal and painting and fixing and redoing the whole car and swapping in a 20v...go winter projects:thumbup:

what
thats a pretty sweet buy

I second that, Hurray for winter projects! nice 86 by the way, can we expect some drifting?;) :D

dance_of_curse
its going to be built for a full drift/street spec....more carbon fiber then on any '86 also...its gunna be a show worthy drifter...i could just slack off and not take the whole car apart but i want it to be clean and as little bondo as possible and very light....the onmly thing that will stop me from completeing this project is the money issues:mad: going to be putting over 10k in it:blink:

SketchifisT
the smartest thing for projects that exceed your money income is either make it so the car is fully done before u take it onto the road, or get the engine done first then work on body later.

However from what ive learned with projects is it a lot better when the entire thing is off the road and u have something else to get u from Point A to Point B either way gluck on the project.

dance_of_curse
yeah i wont take her out till im done everything i think ill leave the engine stock for the most part cept for toda cam gears, timing belt and a head gasket. and then modify more when decide and go for bigger bore pistons, cam shafts and etc....its going to be built for max rpm...hopefully in the 10000k range streetable....and the body is just goung to ge a complete work over and tac welded...no cage but going to look into the expanding foam:cool: and then a full new suspension....i dont know if i should do a complete write up as i go along so others can read about it when im through and build up some more ae86's:thumbup:

SketchifisT
lol too much Initial D with the 10,000k rev thing ;) Keep in mind his engine was not stock ;) Build what u will, but either way sleeve and build the block properly so u dont toss something at t hose high RPMs

qualthar
One thing to be very careful about with the frame foam, is that once you install it and it expands/hardens, it can (and most likely will) break apart under stress conditions on the track.

Once it breaks like this you will never be able to remove it, it's just dead weight.

Just something to think about

dance_of_curse
i know the engine is modded in initial d but thats the only similarity that me and tak have lol... but if i had any other car i would want it to be able to reach 10000rpm....i just love the idea of it reving so high and the noise it makes is like music....i think i may go with the 82mm toda pistons....but that will come after i get the body all re done and the 20v in there....not going to mod the engine much more then stock for now

i dont know very much about the foam stuff its just an idea....the cage would be good but as it is my head allmost hits the roof when i sit in it and if it had a cage it would prolley do more damage to me then if i didnt have one in the car....i dont know it it would be better with different seats though...even though i like the stock seats alot...

dance_of_curse
took off the front quarters and side bumper parts now just the whole front soild bumper part and then on to the rear...and then...the world:beer:i broke a 17mm socket today also...yay for spares...booo for 20 year old rusted ass bolts:mad:

v8killah
in order to have it rev to 10g and still be "streetable" your going to have to do some internal work... not cheap at all for a 20v engine, your best bet would be to keep the 16v in and do that up, itll cost less and it will be more rev happy.

SilviaDrifter
well i dunno...the 20V already has a 8000 rpm redline.....so it cant be that hard to get it to 10g can it?....i dunno im not a piston person

dance_of_curse
yeah i know but my 16v has around 300k i believe cause the odometer broke at 205---k in 1998 i know this from the service records....and the 20v will cost alot to make in to a high reving beast but im not planning on doing much more then new cam gears and timing belt the build up will prolley be another winter...thinking about tomei stuff...or toda it depends:dunno:

dance_of_curse
yeah the silver is 8000 and the black top is 8500....with the tomei parts i think its capeable of 300hp?....rumors....you know:fingersx:

v8killah
rumours man, there is an abundance of parts for the 16v, not so for the 20v.

with 8grand you could build a 16v with individual throttle bodies, and around 200hp.

just think about it, the toyota atlantic cars don't use 16v for no reason, and they have 240hp, think of what 200hp would get you.

only way to get 300 in a 20v is a turbo im afraid.

SilviaDrifter
meh scrap the 16V go with 13B hahahaa
rotary AE86:bowdown:

have any of u guys seen the vid of the 86 with a 20B 3 rotor engine

v8killah
yah thats a funny vid, so fucking fast its unreal.

haha yea its funny when those asian guys start screaming hahahahha

dance_of_curse
swapping the 20b would prolley cost alot more then doing a built 20v cause the whole car would have to be reworked even more so then what i was planning...the ae86 chassis is very weak....even with 300hp it would need massive work....but the whole tomei engine builup would cost a good 11000 but that includes teh reytec ecu etc...and bored to 82mm in stead of 81mm....like a 1.7 liter i believe... the 16v i have i think has a bore of 82mm but im not sure cause its pretty hard to read where it says that in the service history....but it does say bored 0.02mm over and one off block/head and port an polish...cost the guys like 4000....god bless b.c cars....and then when the people move to alberta:thumbup:

dc2696
just remeber to build an engine you have to replace every part that works with the engine(to do it properly) and eventually it ends up being alot of money, make it simple and make it work would be my advice first, but hey if you have the cash do it up right:thumbup: good luck with the new ride man

Darkevil
nice purchase man.. $425 is a STEAL... thats what i usually pay for parts cars haha... I sold my old AE86 with goodies for $3500.. my new ae86 costed me $5000.. but came with like expensive parts.. KAAZ LSD, 14x7 -9mm rims, JDM bumper, HKS intake and expensive TOKICO HTS dampers all around.. since then i have already dumped at least another $2000 worth of parts into her.. cusco camberplates, greddy strut bar, HKS Hi-Power catback system and other expensive goodies..

register on www.dorikaze.com, there are plenty of Edmonton AE86 people on there

dance_of_curse
i am reged:P same name also on that forum.....
nice find on the modded '86 though i need to start giving 'er and strip it but aklas i cant untill the garage im doing it in gets insulated so its just sitting out side right now:P ive got all the bumbers/front fenders and hood off and im in the middle of taking apart the deah/interior so i can get rid of all the tar then it son to the engine/suspension...fter that were makin a chassis stand so we can spin it around and be able to get under the car without going under neath it...its going to be sweet

dance_of_curse
this is a page from the service history which the stuff done to the engine is shown i believe

im not sure so if people know post up!

Charles_00civic
beauty! Good deal it seems. :dunno:

dance_of_curse
you cant buy sr5's this cheap it was avery good deal the interior is liek mint the back carpets look new....its crazy...

turbo_dave
$11,000 for 300 hp.... ouch . Drop in a small block chevy :)

I dont see the point of trying to extract massive amounts of NA power out of such a small displacement motor. I would either go forced induction or just swap in a larger motor.

Will any another toyota power plants, like the 4agze, the 3SGTE, or the  2jzgte  fit easily?

dance_of_curse
its the prestige of having an engine that small with that much hp stillllll very light i think teh 4age weighs like 100kg...or something its on club 4ag and like fricken tomei...god of all engines for japanese cars

Markgase2000
Cool car young feller  dont kill yourself with it!
Good luck with the project :)

GTS Jeff
Wow, congrats on the purchase, but I'd sit back and just enjoy the fact that the car runs. Forget about 300hp, streetable 10,000rpm, drift spec, blah blah...in fact, don't ever talk like that on DK unless you really want a good flaming. :D Don't mean to be harsh, but I'm just saving you some flames. If you'd like, I can explain why none of what you've said is really possible too. ;)

dance_of_curse
its all good i know its possible BUT that possibility come with a huge amout of cash invested into the car 300hp may not be but id wanna have around 140....im buying a silver top so its allmost easy with that...but the 10000 is just a dream id love to have it be able to rev to 10000 but the likely hood of that would be it would do it once but if tryed again the engine would die more then likely....im not all initial d fan boy style if i was i woulda payed over 3k for a hatch back:thumbup: but i just want the car tuned to what makes me happy 300hp and 10000 rpm would make me happy but also 140 and the stock redline would too...

haha good. I don't think there is a single Corolla in the world with 300hp (except the dragsters that don't use 4AGs) and all the engines that rev higher than 10k aren't streetable and make around 200hp anyway. Even silvertops are barely streetable, no torque!

The reality is that 99% of all Corollas make 85-90whp stock and will hit around 100-110whp after mods...
