burned wires - Click HERE for Original Thread

seevik
this is my first thread i dunno if it works but anyways, so i get such a nice system today subs n an amp, and i had sum pos system by now, but my cd player didn work for a while didn no wat it was, so today icheck wit my dad and it ends up bein sum fuse wasnt conected rite or w.e and i was rewiring the cd player harness or w.e, and later im at a friends house to hook up the new subs, and just before i crank up my old ones to hear how bad they sound for the last time, and as i was gonna turn it off, everything shuts off , cd player looses power and all of a sudden soooo much smoke cums rite out of the vents above the cd player, it was soo bad i didn wanna turn on the car or anything so we just quickly push the car off the driveway and let it burn lol, but luckily car stays alive, smoke clears out a lil so i check wat a hell is goin on, and ends up that all the wires behind the cd player are melted together and burned, and im pretty sure my cd player is gone too since the back of it is all black so im thinkin wat to do wit it all, take it to futureshop and get the new rewiring or wat any opinios would help alot

gab
depends what wires burnt, if it's the factory wiring, then you got alot of work to do, but if it's just the harness on the deck, then you should be fine.........the deck might even be okay, a power while might have just shorted to the chasis. check the fuse you replaced, if it was too big that might be why the wire melted.

seevik
thanks bad, ima tgo to futureshop today to check for an estimate or sumtin

seevik
thankgs gab* i dunno why i said bad

either it shorted to the chasis, b/c of of the load on the wires the plastic coating melted a bit and grounded (or they just completely cooked off from the current running through them), or your ground wire isn't big enough compared to ur power wire and it couldn't handle the current and it melted and and in turn melted the other wires, ur power and ground wires should be the only melted ones unless the in turn heated up the other wires enough to melt them, but anyway just rerun ur power and ground wires from the batt and a GOOD ground and make sure the wires r the same or the ground can handle more current, as for your deck is it just black from the smoke from the wires burning or did the deck get cooked?check by just hooking up the power and ground wires to see if it will turn on, even if the wires are melted u should still b able to check, just hook it up dirctly to the batt, hope this helps.

if they want too much for it, lemme know and i'll have a look

Hopefully it was just the harness for the head unit, otherwise, well, enjoy pulling apart your entire interior.

I wouldnt consider them pros but you have a point about the fact that you have a guarentee that it will work or else they cant charge you.. of coarse they will most likely get it goin.

seevik
well they've done it before and know how to do it better then me, prolly not pros tho

SilverNeonRacer
There are some who are "pros" you know gone to the silly schools out each or in the states.

I bought a cheaper deck for my parent's the other day and he said "If it's not professionally installed Panasonic might not honor the warranty" So which I replied I've done a good 2 dozen installs of a more complex systems than this, I think I can handle it. To which the sales guy said i was pretty much a pro.. heh.

I used to asks them what makes a pro a pro when I brought compenents in for warranty work, they couldn't answer me. But it's the schooling.

gab
actually it's if it's installed by an authorized dealer........not too many companies will call you on it unless it is obviously install related.

seevik
well, got everything installed and done last wednesday and it sounds insane, thanks for all ur help
