| Dont put the clear over that color, it will dull it out, it wont be as shiny. I used to work for a powder coating company. If you guys need any tips let me know, i used to powder coat all the stuff we got. |

Are you talking about the clear powdercoat? Or a Painted Clearcoat? Cause we have 50%gloss, And a 200% gloss ClearPowder.
Any tips would be appreciated as well,
Thanx, |

sweet, looks great
I just spent a bit of time on my valve covers, they had been hand painted previously, so I just stripped that down, got a friend to bead blast them, sanded them smooth, spray painted and sanded down raises sections then clear coated. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but it doesn't look perfect up close and it won't hold up anything like powdercoat, I just wanted to do something quick and cheap.

The glossy clear ends up dulling alot of the 2 stage powder coating. If you have a gun, you might as well try as it should be free, its really all trial and error. The chrome is the worst for dulling, But if you dont clear the chrome powder, it WILL end up turning black fast, the blue that you put in should of sealed the chrome, so it wouldn't need any clear. I wouldn't put any in, but its your call. |

Also how long do you guys bake it for and at what temp.?
Also how long did you wait for the chrome to bake before adding in the blue? |

Umm,, the chrome was 400 +/- for 15 mins, as was the blue.
As per instructions we baked the chrome, let cure then did a top of the candy. The valve cover was cool to the touch when we sprayed the blue.
Thanx for the heads up on the 2 stage no clear!!

Maybe you could shed a bit of light on this subject for me? I have access to a powdercoating setup. What is the big deal?? Not trying to stir the pot but I am just curious.
Thanx,

I was just saying it because that is what the mods do here. I don't agree with it, but that is what happens. A buddy of mine has been banned more than once for mentioning he can "paint". He doesn't do it for a living, but he used to so he is good at it and now does it as a hobby but the mods won't let him post about it if he wants to charge even a dollar for his work.
So I was just giving you a sarcastic warning you might be banned because the mods are pretty sticky about the "rules". Even though you aren't taking business away from other sponsors and you may only make 50 bucks a year they will want you to pay $300 for a sponsorship. :limpwrist |
