MKIII weight difference - Click HERE for Original Thread

youngbex
from my understanding the turbo supras have more of a wide body design and the NA supra's feature a narrower body, if this is correct can someone please tell me the weight differences? if there is any?

thanks!

Supra_devil
narrow body mk3's were a japanese market only item i believe. turbo and na's here are both widebody.

yep, the only narrowbody MA70s sold in the US were the very very few that were sold with the 1G-GTE, everything else is the wider body.

youngbex
yea im talking about the MA70's i thought the NA's were also narrow body guess not, but does anyone know the weight difference?

oops, sorry I didn't answer the original question at all..

well for the MA70 NA the curb weight is listed as 3468. this can change a lot however, depending on the options, i.e. targa top, TEMS etc.

all MA70 NAs (7m-ge) were all made in the wide body style AFAIK, I'm not sure of the exact difference but the turbo curb weight was more (due to things like the R154 tranny weighing more than the W58 etc..)

thank you

no problem, I'd look up the exact weights if there were anywhere that listed them, but the only specs I can find are for GA70s and JZA70s

how about for a 1990 1ggte from japan? is that a widebody?

iirc the 1ggte was the GA body code which is a narrow body.

they came either or, when i look at past auctions it seems that it might have been an option from facotry, some say GT twin turbo and others GT twin turbo wide, so i think it means widebody?

Supra_devil
well either way the body code will be GA,
MA is 7m, and jza is 1jz.

I'd just look at the pics, widebodies are easy to tell from narrow bodies, and any good auction will have pics.

i tried to look up more info, but my japanese isn't up to par theses days, lol.

RWD
are there any resourceful sites containing good info on the specs, history and trims of the supras?

Deep_Blue
Yes there are, and I'll try and find the time to put them up on this site for you. Here's a good start:

http://www.ma70.com
http://www.mkiiitech.com
http://www.supraforums.com

I can find better sites soon!

Cheers,

Tim

On supraforums.com Jeff_Lange did a thread that listed all the changes for the MKiii Supra as the model evolved.

http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=194124

This might help.

HAHAHAH, no im just seeing if there is any interest? i dont even own a car at the moment all sold

HeavyEarly87T
I already have a MKiii ma70, although a RHD, 2 litre, 2 turbo sounds like a good idea, I would think parts would be a bit hard to keep up with.

yea they are pretty fast stock

2.5L inline 6
7200 RPM cut-off
and i think just about 300HP stock

but im gaining interest in the GA70 supra i really want to foo around with a 1G-GTE they are not that bad motors, just the turbos are sooo small, i talked to this one guy that has a 400HP MKII and he doesnt have much stuff other then a i think it was a single ball bearing turbo and some fuel, a FCD and 17 PSI:D

i was also browsing a japanese soarer forum and from what translated and appeared clear to me, alot of them use the 2.4L stroker kit, i dont know the name of the kit though?

Displacement, cc 2491
Engine model 1JZ-GTE
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 280 ps (205.94 kw) / 6200 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 37.0 kg*m (362.85 N*m) / 4800 rpm

Not sure about the 7200 rpm, but they do look like screamers.

yea its a 7200 rpm limiter, one of my friends was driving one around for a while until it sold and a fun car it was:D

save yourself the money and hassle and buy a jza70, more power for cheaper, same small turbo problem though, put on a single and go. The 1g-gte can be made powerful but its still not got any bottom end power, which a heavy assed car like the mk3 needs. and either way you have no aftermarket parts reasily available in north america since neither was ever offered here.

myself i'd only buy a jza so i could swap in the 2jz, then i can buy regular maitenance parts in north america, i can get timing belts, i can buy turbo kits, i can buy intake manifolds, TB's, etc.

I like the 1j, but i don't know why people want them so bad, when it breaks you will be waiting quite a while for parts, and its already 15 years old and driven like a sports car over in japan, its not a mint condition car most of the time.

I talked to a couple guys with 1J's at suprafest, and they said ya wait time was more, but they were fine with it, maybe you are too.

Deep_Blue
I like the 1jz plenty myself, when I'm done with thisa car, I'm going to build a full race mkiii using a 1jz, they're better for high rev applications. I know some guys that have them revving up to 9000rpm. The support over here is also starting to pick up, I know Randy at BIC put one in his car, and now he's making some gorgeous parts for it. You can also get parts from other 1JZ guys.

If anyone is really interested, a buddy of mine owns a company that imports JDM cars, and he could pick up a JZA70 really easily.
Not to mention he sells them for probably the cheapest prices around.

Anyone interested can PM me for details.

I'll have you one day JZ, one day...

Cheers,

Tim

never thought about that, and the aftermarket for the 2jz engine is MASSIVE!

JoeNagy
And 2jz guys always sell their parts for hella cheep. For some reason 750hp isnt enough and they feel a need to keep upgrading every year and dump their setups to go even more hp. 2jz is def. a wicked route to go but its just to bad it costs a whole lot to get into one in the first place BUT it is capible of 400ish hp on BPU and a 6 spd tranny would be fun.
