Again, I'm not saying that its not something that if people are grunging poor, and need a simple transporter and don't have the modey for something like a VW TDI, or dont want a small 4 banger coupe, then that'd be the way to go. But I am also saying that if you're under 60, and you actually want to be seen in public in that thing and not have the reputation of not beging able to drive something bigger than a shopping cart, then ANY other car'd be a better choice.
Are you retarded? People that are "grunging poor" can not afford a $5000 car let alone a brand new $16,000 + car and the costs that come with it. And who in their right mind buys a car for the purpose of not getting a "reputation of not being able to drive something bigger than a shopping cart" ?? What the fuck does that mean anyway????? I'll never get laid if chicks know about my rep for driving shopping carts, I better buy a truck and jack it up so they know I have a big penis.:rolleyes:
Thanks to our resident crash scene investigators for their insight. I know they brought up some things I hadn't thought of. While I don't think the safety of the SMART is as dire as they make it out to be I also don't believe the sales propaganda as it just makes sense that driving the smallest vehicle on the road will be more dangerous than driving a large one. But I can't bring myself to believe that everyone should buy the biggest vehicle they can afford for some margin of safety. We should be worrying more about reducing the number of large vehicles on the road in cities(It would be nice to drive around if everyone had small european style cars) , reducing the number of accidents(graduated licensing, stiffer drunk driving penalties, better traffic controls, education, etc..) and increasing small vehicle safety.
If everyone drove Super-duties we would still have accidents with semis and two 1 tons running into each other will be just as bad as two small cars hiting each other. More crush area but more mass. |

Half-way there.
S = Swatch (no longer involved)
M = Mercedes-Benz (sole partner now)
ART = art (yes, art...as in moving art) |

I don't think the Smart is unsafe or anything, it wouldn't be my choice for the commute since it is so light, and yes the marketing is very misleading.
In terms of safety, it is a very well designed tiny car. Lots of us here drive older small cars, that IMO are probably less crashworthy than a smart (EG's, CRX, early Miata, FC3S, etc).
And about image when driving a Smart, lots of chick think they are cool. You'd probably be able to meat (pun intended) 3 times more Chicks in a Smart than an S2000 for instance... LOL. |

That is 100% right. I have driven the Smart Cabrio and a Porsche Boxter back to back many times and I had ton's of girls ask for rides in the Smart car. The only ones that wanted in the Porsche wanted in the wallet. |
