I want to do a auto-manual tranny swap and dont know where to start. I ahve a trnsmission all lined up but from there I have no idea. I know a few of the parts to get. If I get all the parts where can i get it put it?? Remember i'm on a budget. If someone on the site wants some cash feel free to offer up! lol.

If you're on a budget and do NOT want to do the work yourself, it's cheaper to sell your existing car and buy a manual.

The labour a shop would charge would be 10-15 hours most likely. At 50-80/hour you're looking at $500 (Which I doubt you'll get it for) to $1200 for labour alone. Not to mention all the parts you'll need to purchase (Much more than just a tranny), you might end up paying $1500-$2000 by the time you're done.

You know what.. I really would like to be able to reach threw the computer and give you a good smack... But what you should do it talk to Gatesmith on Cevo. He did it on his EG.

my buddy wanted to change his talon to a manual, but turned out to be pretty pricey and lots of labor which would cost, the best idea is prolly just get the same car in amanual, but then again depends on wat car u got, if its sumtin like a skyline or sumtin rare which u wanna keep and think its worth just swapin it do it, but if its like a civic or sumtin there is a shitload of, ull find the same as urs in a manual which would prolly cost u lots cheaper,if u no wat im sayin

A buncha people have done it to neons.

They needed:

Tranny
ECU off a MTX car
Pedal assembly
shifter
All misc cables and hoses.
and abuncha other stuff.

If you have a donor car... like say a mtx that was rearended and a write off, but everything up front is fine, it's not bad.

i did it to my prelude. with labour and everything totalled about $2800, that includes a intake and some little things though, so probably around 2600-2700 tax in.
i also found my parts used.

I plan on going manual next year. I've set a side a budget of $10K.

Tranny and all associated parts to do the swap is around $1800. Labour for the install is $1000. The rest of the budget will get eaten up from upgrades such as tranny rebuild, final drive, LSD, master & slave cylinder, lightened flywheel, clutch, gauge cluster, short shifter assembly, pedals, shift knob. Also I plan on going stand alone so an ECU is needed plus tuning.

I'm sure I could costs if I wasn't getting it done by a shop but I have neither the time, the knowledge nor the help to do such an endeavour.

that seems pretty steep!! btw good idea to get an LSD while the tranny's out

It's a budget. I'm sure it will be less than $10K but I'm not sparing any expense or cutting any corners. I want it done right the first time.

My budget just doesn't include the tranny and installation, I'm also including the cost for the tranny rebuild, master/slave cylinder, and performance upgrades such as the quaife lsd, final drive, flywheel, clutch, short shifter assembly, shift knob/pedals, manual guage cluster, P72 ecu socketed for hondata, hondata S200, obd1 conversion harness, and of course tuning...

Dont worry Charles Mike is prolly confused with your list of projects you been up to lately and some of the things you say aswell. For example you said you arent worried about performance just ice and bitch up mods. Now you want to add something expensive and performance oriented. Im kinda confused too but I wont express it by saying I would like to jump through the screen and bop you one lol since I know Mike a bit I know hes just bein silly I net venting! Thats just Mikes way of sayin "WTF!?!" and hes prolly got more to add to it. I think Mike is expressing you need to make your mind up buddy ;) and also he offered you to talk to somebody whos done this swap before so hes actually trying to help.

This is true... But at the same time, I hate to see people destroy a car because they don't really have the required still to preform a task. Thats more what I am worried about with this project.

Charles_00civic
hahaha. Nice. Well. I have the tranny lined up. ALl the other stuff is about 800 to buy. I called honda toy and told em he parts list and they said 800. I'm estimating 600 in shop labour. I dunno. lol. I might wait till I get the g35 at this rate.

Nightstalker
If I was you I would be more worried about getting my licence then what car you are driving...

Charles_00civic
meh.. License is easy. I practiced up. Parallel parking etc. Just those damn "Pedestrians". lol. Yah but i cant help it. I seem to do well on stuff like this. haha. I wrote a mock "defensive driving course" exam and got 94 percent. Didnt read the leaners book and got 100. lol. I'm practicing up. I'm sure one iu can drive i'll get bored of all this work on the car mindset. I think I wann work on the boat and van this winter. :blue:
