I believe that it's actually a mental disease; these people often can't help themselves.
But then there are just lazy assholes that take advantage of the system in order to get extra time off. One particular situation at the hospital happened when this other aide that I was working with was lightly hit on the arm by a patient. She really brought out the big guns, biting her lip to get the tears going and all. By lightly hit I mean as hard as you would give someone a high five.
So this bitch makes a big scene and goes home, eventually filing for disability and taking nearly FOUR months off. This patient that hit her is reprimanded and ends up in a really shitty mood and, lucky me, I get to sit with him for most of the rest of the evening. From then on he's on edge and eventually starts to lose it and climb up on top of a TV cabinet. I call for help as he's kicking and swinging at me as I'm trying to get him down. Other people show up and stand around doing nothing as I try to deal with this patient. Eventually I have to stop him from entering another patient's room and he clocks me. This wasn't a little high-five slap, this was full on, closed-fist, right the the side of my eye, seeing stars kind of a shot. I can honestly say that I've never been punched that hard before in my life. But I didn't take any time off. I helped take down the patient and then held him for 90 minutes with four others as we had to get a doctor's order to have him injected. All this because this stupid bitch wanted some paid time off for doing absolutely nothing. Two minutes after the punch I felt fine and just filled out an incident report later in the night, no time off, no hospital runs, no bullshit. I did end up with a black eye, but I don't see that as a valid reason for taking time off.
Sadly in many lines of work these people take advantage of the system and screw it up for everyone else. So if you see someone else doing this, maybe make an accident happen that is worthy of time off. :p j/k |

I don't know any hypocondriacs nor am I one, but half my friend's mothers are nurses and my mom used to be one as well. The stories they tell about people. It gets REALLY bad during flu season or instances like that meningitis scare a few years ago. Just wanna smack people like that and tell them to get a grip.
B-Wurm :D |

omg!! I laughed so hard! I agree with prax tho we got a immune system for a reason. Never hurts to get checked out on the lingering sicknesses tho. |

if you think its bad go get it checked out. Like i cut my finger open and wasn't going to get it checked figured it was fine, then my dad who is a first aid guy was like well let me just clean it out, sure enuff there was metal shavings / carbon fibre shavings from a zip discs that would have made the cut quite nice if i left them in there.
That being said there are people who want attention and that is sad, but also why laugh or make fun of them , they may have a serious problem underlyin but i guess that is funny now a days when someone is scared for there health we should laugh and make fun of them? All our bodies are differen't so, to each there own i say. That being said i try and help those who go to the doctor too much, but its better to be safe then sorry, if you got medical then go do it. |

| One thing to keep in mind tho people a true hypochondriac person is suffering from a form of mental illness. Making fun of them could have seriously bad effects on them them. It is a sad illness imo I have met many clinically certified hypo's and they truly suffer from more than thinking they are sick there brain makes them act sick aswell and theres no way to help them from that unless they are hospitalized. Some doctors have to do false treatments fool them into thinking there getting better. It is sad :( |
