I have a 96 accent gt, engine has a fast ticking sound when cold, but after its warm it stops, and I have a slight oil leak.. Was wondering where in edmonton would be the best place to take it for a rebuild? And about how much I'd be looking at spending?
Also, does anyone off hand know if there are any other engines that will direct bolt up without any major modifications?
One more question.. when I go over bumps it sounds like something in the back is making a clunking sound, but there's nothing in the back except for a giant sub box, I took everything out of the spare tire well and there's nothing back there.. so basically I have a feeling its my suspension, but the weird thing is, it didnt happen untill took the hatch off, and filled some of the spaces with expanding foam to get rid of some outside rattles (which works great I might add) and I also put in rubber undercoating inside my panels and everything.. |

Sounds like classic lifter tick. Nothing to sweat about. It's more of an annoyance than anything. Every car I've owned has had some form of it. There are some engine cleaners out there that you can try but the ultimate solution to it is replacement of the lifters. As for oil leak, it'll probably be a gasket. Cost I don't know.
As for suspension, I hate it, someone help him out on this one :D |

I have had success running a liter of ATF to get rid of hydraulic lifter noise......
No need to rebuild. |

hmmnn, I'll give that a shot, it doesnt damage your engine at all? (running ATF)
no one had any ideas on the suspension? |

Nope, I heard run it for 50km's then dump the oil again. It's the only method I havent tried yet, and I'm about to on my eclipse. |

There's mixed reviews on ATF.
Run it for 50km or so, but don't really work the engine.
Most oil flushes say idle the engine for 5-10min and not to drive it.
ATF is a lubricant obviously, but contains alot of detergents. |

It's more that the ATF has friction modifiers to help the clutches in the auto tranny grip.
I'm not quite sure how flushing is going to fix a clacking lifter though... |

Matt, I believe you are are supposed to:
1) Flush your engine
2) Refill with 1L of ATF, and the rest engine oil
3) Run the car for 50km or so
4) Dump the oil, use a flush if you wish, and refill with engine oil |

I'm surprised that none of the Rx-7 guys have said this:
MARVEL MYSTERY OIL
About eight bucks at ukranian tire, and it does a great job of cleaning up an engine. I mix it with my fuel when I fill up, but supposedly it does wonders when in the oilpan too. |
