Brake Fluid. - Click HERE for Original Thread

MixManMash
Okay, looking for brake fluid. Specifically Motul RBF 600.. Planning on changing to SS brake lines and need to bleed the brakes.

Where can I get the Motul RBF 600 from in Edmonton? Or any other suggestion for a good synthetic brake fluid?

vorpalz
Hey Mash,

I ordered Motul 600 from Coz @ Concept Z Performance because I couldn't find any locally, but the shipping had to be done through UPS (postal service wouldn't ship *hazardous* chemicals) I got stung on brokerage big time

However, my buddy redid his Jetta with ATE Super Blue, available locally through Westside Automotive, a VW outfit. Talk to Rob or Bill, it didn't cost him that much, and is what I'll be switching to this spring.

SS lines are faboo!! You won't regret switching.

MixManMash
Yeah, I heard SS lines make a bit of an improvement. I just changed the front OEM pads to EBC Green Stuff and what a huge improvement. The car actually stops. The OEM pads are garbage.

you can get Motul from Rally Subaru on 34ave. (Motul Dealer)

MixManMash
I just called Rally Subaru and Westside Automotive.

Thought I'd let you guys know the prices.

RBF 600 is going for $25.00 for one 500 mL bottle. That means for a full flush (about 1.5L), it's $75.00.

ATE Super Blue is going for about $19 & change for 1 L bottle. For a full flush (about 1.5L) it's about $30.00 (of course you have to buy 2 bottles for about $40.00) I think for the price performance, ATE is the best bang for the buck.

Just my 2 cents, but thought I would share what I learnt.

Where can you pickup the ATE super blue? Was that at westside automotive?

vorpalz
um, please read my post above.

twinturbo
Oh....sorry!

I am not from Edmonton, is westside automotive a car dealership, or what did you mean by "VW outfit". I will be making the trip into edmonton to pick some brake fluid and would like to know what exactly this place is so I can find it.

Thanks!

vorpalz
Sorry about that, here's the info for Westside Automotive:

10010 168 St NW,
Edmonton, AB, T5P 3W8
(780) 489-8021

Ask for Rob or Bill, they'll get you set up with the ATE. When are you coming to town? You'll be driving by my work (PianoCentre, 10624-170 St.) Look for my TT on the west side of 170 St. as you are driving by. Or hell, stop in and say hi.

Regards

twinturbo
everything in that city is down 170st. !!!
Thanks alot for the info! Next time I am down i'll keep an eye out for your Z!

I can vouch for ATE Super Blue. Great stuff!

But you don't need 1.5L... that's balony. A 1L bottle of ATE was actually more than enough for a FULL flush (including the 2 ABS bleed points).

The neat part about the Super Blue is the fact that the fluid is literally blue, it helps in minimizing how much you need when first switching from a clear fluid to the Super Blue. The color change helps you to know when you've purged the old fluid. Then you alternate with a clear fluid on the next change.

There are a number of really GOOD brake fluids out there. Motul and ATE are only two of them. I wouldn't bother scouring the 4 corners of the globe looking for Motul 600 specifically. If you find some conveniently great, but its not anything earth shattering to warrant any hoops to jump through.

MixManMash
Cool. And I can definetely say that you don't need that much either.

I still have 1 unopened bottle and 1 bottle that still has a little bit left.

Anybody want 1 bottle, let me know. I'll sell it to ya for my cost.
