Anybody know where the speed and tachometer signal is in the dash of the mr2?

91 speedo is cable driven, and the tach signal is in the bundle of wires on the drivers side kick panel, i cant remember what color it is off the top of my head, it whould be in the bgb.

so if the speedo is cable driven, theres no way to get the signal from it or can you? i just need to hook a wire up to it to get a speedo and tach signal.

My guess is that you want to hook up a turbo timer. On MR2OC.com they said it was the purple wire with white stripe. I hooked mine up here but the results are not verry good, although I havn't tested it very much. The purple one is in one of the harnesses that hooks into the dash. The speed on my greddy turbo timer is off from my speedo, but they both accelerate/decelerate at the same time.
Not very helpful but its something you can try. I read that there's someway you can read it off the ecu, but I would't have a clue how to do that.

there is a wire on the ecu that receives the speedo signal. that is another way of getting the speed wire. if your running a greddy, its not nessicary to hooki this wire up for it to work, i didn't but thats because i'm not too crazy about cutting into the cars wiring harness.

So i should hook it to the purple wire then? where is it, under the steering column? or in a panel on the legs?

The purple wire clips in behind the gauge cluster, but i'm warning you mine is very inacurate. Way2fast what colour is the wire that connects to the ECU for speed?

ive got a picture of the ecu pinout, ill see if i can go to my friends and scan it, but it doesnt have a color just a number. with that purple wire, i would be willing to bet that its not a speed wire, with a cable drive there would be no need to run a speed wire to the cluster as well as the cable, my guess is it may be a cruise cont wire, and cruise signals will be a little slower just like the factory boost guage, you don't want the accelerator stabbing on and off violently while cruising on the highway. (yes you have the wiring for cruise even if it wasn't installed from the factory)

ok so when you're looking at the ecu pins, not the wiring harness, you'll just have to remember which one it was for the wiring harness.
so look at the ecu and there will be 3 main plug-ins, look at the 3rd one, on the right. it will be an 11x2 pinout (11 wide and 2 rows high). find the pinout that is 9 from the right and that will be it; sorta like this.

the o is where the signal wire will be, if your ecu doesn't look exactly like ive described, don't hook anything up to it, there is always a possibility of f-ing something up. if its not the same you can run a wire up to the cocpit and wook it up to a volt meter while the car is mooving, that will tell you if its hooked up properly.
P.s. and with what YOU decide to do to YOUR car is YOUR decision/responsibility. (just my little disclaimer) |
