Subsonic filtering.. - Click HERE for Original Thread

Okay, so I actually got some of my old stereo stuff back, (1500 watt phoenix gold, 15" kicker L7 w/SPL cabinet...) anyways, some of the settings were messed with..

Now I can't remember what I had for subsonic filtering, exactly what does it do, and whats usually the best place to put it?

I mean, theoretically this setup should be louder than my two type-r's, but it isn't so I don't know whats happening.. (My two type-r's wern't even broken in or anything yet, brand new.)

subsonic filter: a high-pass filter which attenuates the very lowest frequencies from 1 to about 30 Hz so that your amp can have more power available to make the sound that you can actually hear... it's probably a lot easier on your subs if they are throwing out to max on the low beats, and you can't hardly tell that it's happening.

so generally, where's the best place to have it set?

also, what would be the best setting for a kicker solo 15" L7 for the LPF?

Well, in case anyone is wondering I ended up finding out what subsonic filtering actually does.. it makes sure your sub does not go past it's x-max and fuck it up.. it blocks out tones that will make your sub basically blow up.. or thats what I got from it anyways..

Yup. There are a few ways to do it one is buy a inline device that only allows those signals thru. Inline meaning between the speaker and amp on the positive speaker wire.. I only use this kind of filter for my tweeters I didnt know they had them for subs cool got a link?

what type of box do you have?? is it sealed or ported??? in general you should have it set at 15-20hz what it will do is cut out the tones that are 15-20 hz or lower.

Thanks for the reply, it's a vented box.. It's the 6 Cu. Ft one from the Kicker technical manual, and it actually says in the manual what to set the subsonic filter at, which is 25hz.
