Coolant overflow bubbling....please read - Click HERE for Original Thread

Praylewd powr
I am stumped. I have had bubbles in my coolant overflow for about two weeks now. I get it only after hard driving, my overflow goes to the normal "max" level, does not explode over, and I do not burn any coolant. My plugs are fine, my oil is fine (no coolant). I have used ARP studs, OEM HG, and permatex copper spray. I have noticed a bit of copper spray in the coolant but it may have been from the "edges" of the gasket on the water jacket. I have had bubbles before, but the overflow would pour right out and the culprit was the HG. My compression is fine, I replaced the rad cap, and I have no visible coolant/air leaks. The water pump is new also from the recent build. Has this happened to anyone else? How can I further rule out the headgasket without pulling the head?

Is there anyone around that can do a leakdown test for me to confirm the problem? I need to find this out before I park it and I don't want to pull the head unnecessarily.

I appreciate any replies,

that happened to me two summers ago, the shop thought for sure it was the head gasket, but it turned out to be a coolant fan relay that was burnt out, so it was boiling and bubbling.

not much i can offer but that, hope it helps.

You can buy a test that will check for combustion gasses in your coolant. That will rule out the head gasket. I would also make sure you bought the propper rad cap. If the spring is too weak it could be not holding the pressure.

hey duane, have you noticed if your fans start or not while you're just sitting and idling at operating temp? if they dont start your fan engine temp switch could be done (happened to me before, boiled off most of my coolant in one sitting as my keys were locked in my car while it was running).

the fan functions as normal and my coolant temps never exceed 185F (unless idling, when the fan comes on at 198....then the ECT goes back down as usual).

Head gasket for sure if it's not overheating.
I just went through the same thing, no coolant in the oil or vice versa and only after beating on it would the bubbling happen.
The fire ring was slightly deformed on cylinder #8 allowing cylinder pressure into the waterjacket.
