luv'n my 7
ok a couple of weeks ago i was at my local pub "CP's" And as i was leaving at 12:00 at night, going home because i had to work the next day this cop acks like a total prick!
this is what happened! I was sitting in my car letting it warm up a bit seeing how it was -20 out side and i lived 3 blocks away! i look in my rear view mirror and i see a cop car just sitting their in at the side of the parking lot. No big deal i got to the pub at 8:30 and i only had 3 beers the hole night! As im pulling out of my stall he starts to follow me and eventually put's his lights on after i've only driven about 30ft. I pull over, still in the parking lot. And buy this time i am right pissed off. So i get out of my car to ask him what the problem is? He tells me that i have "illegal" mufflers and they can't be over a certain diameter! Yeah ok, ass if i knew that! So he starts asking me how many beers i had. i tiold him i've had 3 and i've been here for over 3 hours! So than he says to me that he's gonna impound my car for DUI, which i was not even cloose to being! So i told him i think that is B.S. He walks me over to the car and starts talking to me some more. and by this time i am VERY upset with this guy! I don't know what happened next but he grabs me by my coat without any warning ripping it in the mean time and begings to search me! I kept asking him what it was i did. And all he said to me was "shut up". I kept asking him and eventually he said that i was under arrest! I said for what i did nothing wrong. He tells me that im under arrest for RESISTING arrest! WHAT!!!! So im in the back of the car talikng to him calmly, and he starts going on saying " i know all about you punks! With your neon lights and you loud exhausts" I said excuse me but i have no neon light's and i know that my car is a bit loud but im working on quieting it down some. So eventually he lets me go with a warning. A warning for what i don't really know! But my question is this. Why do some cops act like A-hole just because im young and drive a sports car? Why must we all ways get "interogated" when we do nothing wrong? My parents told me that i should have takin that officer to court and pressed charges on him for excessive force! But i know what would have happened, All you other cops on my side of town would be out to get me for a while after that so i decided to just let it go!
Thanks for letting me vent some!

RezaREX
Sorry to hear about your problems. I'm thinking of starting to carry around one of those little tape recorders in case a similar situation happens to me. It would be nice to have evidence to back up any charges against the offending officer. Just like a stupid street racer can ruin the scene of racing for everyone a dumbass cop can ruin how young ppl view the police.

REFLUX
it sucks when you don't know your rights huh???
i gotta pull out some books myself

you should've done what your parents told you.......

that would totally piss me off

BlueTurboEGG
It's ok to vent, don't sweat it, we've all got our black eyes.

But we must be firm against action of this sort and discourage it.

I would strongly reccommend that if anything like this happens to anyone to take the offensive officer to court and file a complaint on his ass.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?.

This is discrimination in the worst way.

Almost
I ask for badge number and first and last name, usually before they have a chance to even ask me for any I.D.

I had one cop stop dead, turn around get back in his car and just drive off

The rest usually just give it to me and are unusually polite, if they refused, I'm super polite take my warning for whatever bullshit it happens to be, then when they say I can go, I do a u-turn (I'm almost always pulled over into parking lots for some reason, go figure) and copy down the car numbers and license plate...

Every ass gets a pissed off call to the station, then I have another friend or two call and complain about the same car/cop as well.

Fight ass with ass.

BlueBlur
nice... I'm going to start doing that.
This is what I've been told to do..
report the incident to Internal Affairs / what ever department they call it.
Be aware that they don't like that. It puts them under a microscope, even for a little while. It most always pisses them off.
Also expect your life to be a living hell for awhile as all of their "friends" will keep a special eye out for you.

*This information stems from an encounter with the eps and consultation with a liar..ahem.. lawyer that deals with them regularly.

redbaron303
Damn ppl with power...... Some serve and protect and some are just assholes and menaces to us..... I like the first set but not the second. I'll just try and mind my own business and keep my mouth shut from now on.....

Nightstalker
Always get the cops badge number and name... I know that once I get my car done up some day I am going to get pulled over and searched and have my airsoft stuff in the trunk... its going to be interesting to say the least.. I don't seem to have many problems with the police actually, it might be because I wear my canadian issue forces parka in the winter though... something along the lines of respecting fellow service members... I have no idea.. one thing that my jacket really does not help with is going to bars... it seems that its like wearing a sign that says.. if you have had to much to drink and wana get your ass kicked come over here..

Shitty deal dude.. next time take it to the man..

inglewood
Well remember, you don't have to be over the legal limit to be DUI. Now I'm not accusing you of driving under the influence, but it's just a possibility. Anyhow, I think rather than a tape recorder, have a dash mounted camcorder, or if you have someone in the car, have them record the entire thing...then send it to CFRN or Global...they are that kind of stuff. Are you black? Cuz if you are, they might air a new special called Rodney King: Edmonton Edition. K, that's enough, but I'm glad you're ok.

Jacques

BlueTurboEGG
Damn, I should by a mini-dv camcorder just for that purpose!...

"Honey, can we get a Mini-DV 'Corder in the interests of keeping my ass out of the fire?"

SlowAzzPorsche911T
just to anyone else who doesn't know this already take a look at a dialogue I had with a cop one time in calgary... he was a street cruiser pulling me over for improper lane change (i.e no signal) and that was an excuse to pull me over and attempt a search... I was pulled over, put my jag in park rolled down the window shut off the music and had my d.l and registration/pink car all ready for him and handed it to him as I said

"Good evening officer"

"Don't get smug with me"

"alll righty then.. here's my stuff"

he takes it sits in his patrol car for a while and on the radio then back to my car....

"step out of the car"

"why?"

"because..."

"??? blank look from me"

"i'm going to search your car" (not I would like to.. is it alrite if... nothing

"what's the probable cause officer?"

"probable cause...?"

"yes without one you can't execute a search"

"oh.... here's your stuff"

"thanks officer have a good night"

it gets those green cops everytime.... don't ask me if they need a good reason haha.... doesn't work on senior officers.... they just start yellin and throw you in the back of their patrol car and threaten to write you every ticket in the book... make small talk with em and they'll calm down just don't get your back up and they seem to be fine.. let em do their power trip. Just exp. from gettin pulled over a lot :D I know this may be easy for me to say being a young middle class caucasian suburbanite but try it.. probable cause... what's that mean anyways?

call me an idealist but I don't think it should be necessary for us to know our rights and the law books inside out just to avoid harrasment.

The police know the laws and procedures, they should FOLLOW THEM!

It's their JOB.

If any of us went to work, and didn't do our job, or didn't know how to do our job, our asses would be fired.

You'd think a job that allowed you to carry a firearm would have rules stricter than a frickin Sales clerk position or Dock worker.

AAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh

Can anyone tell I was pulled over yet again for driving in a straight line, under the speed limit?

It's good thing I'm not ethnic, I'd never make it anywhere on time.

Ya man, you're a real idealist. One thing I learnt on moving to the City is the cops will do whatever the hell they want as long as there's no witnesses. Rules do not matter.

If any of you are under the impression that you have to do something wrong to be beat up you're being completely naive.

Buddy what happened to you is nothing, I had a similar incident standing outside of a bar, I was talking to this group of guys I'd met about 5 minutes before when a couple cops pull up. These guys bust out, me being a stupid naive 19 year old think "I have done anything wrong, so they can't do anything to me", next thing I know I'm slammed on the cruises then slammed to the ground with a knee in the side of my head.

While I'm on the ground, Asshole cop #2 takes the opportunity to kick me in the nuts. SO I;m feelin real good right now...

So the cop throws me in the car, says "you're going downtown buddy", he drives like 20 blocks and pulls over, he opens the door and asks me some question, when I tried to answer he said "Shut-up" and grabbed my windpipe and squeezed. I don't know if you've ever had somebody crushing your windpipe but it sucks dude...

After he's done chokin me out, he takes the cuffs off says "This never happened" and he drives away. So I'm there now 35 blocks from home instead of 15, ratched up face from the pavement, achin nutsack, and a wrist that I could hardly swelled to shit, I hardly open and close my hand for almost 2 weeks.

That was my introduction to the big city, now I know if there's no witnesses you're at their mercy, to beleive any crap about rights or rules, or their responsibility as the policing body is completley unrealistic.

So do you still feeel so bad about getting your warning?

I'd like to hear from the officers on this board, can you honestly tell me this doesn't happen all the time. The fact is, it does, constantly, which is why I have absolutley no respect for City Police.

Welcome to Edmonton, although it probably looks a lot more like Cambodia to you after that shit.

All I am going to say is that I was on teh other side of the fence for a while.......there's always two sides to a story!!!!

RezaREX
Unfortunately we never get to hear the other side. I'm not saying the people here are lying nor am I saying this kind of stuff never happens but we have no way of knowing so I guess you should just take everything with a grain of salt. Fortunately my dealings with police have all been very polite and respectful (other than the fact I was pulled over for no reason). I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

scooby_dooby
I told you the other side, I was talking to some guys I'd known for like 5 minutes, cops came, for whatever reason they ran, they probably had warrants out.

My being stupid just stayed there, cause I knew I wasn't doing anything so they couldn't do anything to me, i was so sure, what a retard.

It was a pretty sh1tty experience, but not really that big of a deal in the end, I'll say it was definately a wake up call for me.

scooby_dooby
you know they're just people, they have a really sh1tty night or day, they're in a position of power, and they will take out their frustrations on other people. That's just human nature, to an extent. Still, really jaded my whole outlook on the city police.

If you're alone, no witnesses, they can and will do whatever they want, that's the reality.

mazda929s_urbanImports
i gfot pulled over for my muff. and he had me pulled over for almost 20 min going through my car, getting me to rev it up to see how loud it got, then he asked me if i had any points on my licence which i dont, so of coarse i said no, and then he ran my licence anyway and marked my car on the comp, :fingersx:

P.S. why do people say just my two cents...where does two come from???

Shave and a haircut, 2 bits.
Old school barbers are like bartenders.. practicly psychotherapists...
For 2 bits you get good advice.
My 2bits, is relative to that..
My 2 cents is the evolution...

Well I hope I never run into a bad police officer because it would be instant lawsuit/humiliation suit if that ever happened to me.

But I have only had good experiences with the police so far...I have never even been pulled over, went through a checkstop and they didn't hassle me at all. They just asked if I had a few drinks and I said no...then I drove off...no problems...

Probably just cause I am white and my car isn't too too loud.

There are going to be good and bad apples in all professions...it is just a lot more dangerous when the person has a gun and can shoot you and then claim self defense and its their word against yours...

I have to admit, I am scared shitless of police and what they can do...

To be scared when you haven't done anything wrong is a bad feeling...

Oh yea and did I mention the fully personelled Armored Peronsel Carriers on the Yellowhead today?? Oh yea...I feel REAL safe with APC's and Military personel in camo-gear driving around the city...

Yea I'm picky...I pay my taxes and have a right to be!

cry.

yup you could cry, or say f@ck 'em, but you won't be winning any lawsuits

true enough...can't fight the law if the law breaks the law I guess...

PraxRX7
Yup...out of all the police there are 95% good ones...

They do their best to keep crime to a minimum and I salute them

Besides I am more worried about getting shot by a gang/drug guy mistaking me for someone they know

Crime is on an upswing...and that is why they are hiring so many more police this year (I might even apply and become one of the 95% of the good ones  )

MightyMidget
yea they were supposed to be hiring lots of recruits this year but I have heard that they have to cut back 2 million dollars and the recruit classes wil suffer.

Crime is NOT rising.

go to stat can and take a look at the dropping crime rate across canada in almost every city, a decade long trend.

Try not to listen to the news too much, you'll get a skewed outlook on the world.
