Hi, I just came back from millwoods suzuki, they have a civic that obvious has a rear end accident: The trunk lid was uneven on both side. I understand all sales lie a little, but that just stupid.
so any places I should be avoid?
is Alberta Truck and auto Liquidators good? |

| Sounds like an experience I had there as well. When we looked under the hood I saw overspray from the body being repainted and the salesman said it was definetely not. Another thing was some "freshish" oil in the engine bay I asked about it and he said it was probably from when they changed the oil. Dumbass. |

Stay away from any used car lot that isn't an actual dealership.
The small lot-type places will try to screw you over way more than dealerships ever would. They also do whatever they possibly can to a car to make it appear in great condition.
Avoid em like the plague! |

we bought a car from the alberta truck and auto liquidators. It was a great car(99 maxima). we have since sold it and didnt have any problems with it.
Bare in mind most of their stuff comes from the east. I knew this going into the deal but just keep that in mind and watch for chassis rust. |

The one on the corner of fort road and 132ave. They had a Swift Gti, bargin finder had it liksted for $4000, I drop by, windshield had $3000. Next time I drive by I see it's down to $2200. So I pop in, The driver's side outside lock and latch don't work, l;iterally have to go in through the pass side to open it. They say it's a $20 part, I say the car's been here a month why isn't it fixed? No answer. Car seemed to run fine, needs paint bad, tire size was a little. So I said I would think about it.
Pop by a week later, told it was sold to the owner's cousin, they try to show me a Dodge Daytona. Out side looks decent, inside quick look seemed decent, under a closer look, lookslike it had a stereo, components the whole nine, but when whomever pulled it puit panels back on they used drywall screws. Also looked like it had a huge tach at one point... pop the hood.. engine was WAY to clean, looked like a recent head gasket job, hood underside had a layer of engine grime on it(oil/antifreeze/whatever. I mentioned there was too many signs it was abused.. the kinda say "yeah ok" and ignored me after that.
Previous to looking at the cars they tried the story about how they where nicely driven.
Heh the best yet was the dealership on 101st and 111ave, since I was there they've changed ownership. But I traded a 93 swift with some body damage and worn valve seals(only leaked at really high RPM). I got an 86 D50, actually quite a nice truck, IU was told an elderly cuouple had traded it and another car in for an automatic as they has arthritis and couldn't drive a stick any more.
So I drive it hoime seems good, little hard on fuel, but hey. Drive it around go to a mall one day, back into a parking spot(had a unique rear bumper) Anyhow get into the mall and a guy in the entrtance way asks if the truck is mine, I say yeah, he said it was his and that his young daughter used to drive it, and they traded it when she smacked a light pole and a front fender needed replacing. Which explained alot, emblems on one fender where backwards, the bottom wasn't secured properly and it had a cheeper than Macco paint job, buddy flicked it with his finger and chipped the paint. Not to mention they did the clutch and did it wrong, 6-8mo after I bought it the tranny chewed itself up as the input shaft was missing a spacer bearing. I confronted the dealership abou the tranny, they played innocent and started telling me my old swift was blowing porclen off the plugs(To replace the hood, a mirror and un paint a few inside vents, the had it in the shop for 6mo.) |

| ^Go private sale then. Why do you feel the need to purchase at a used car dealership in the first place? |

| yea i agree with DelSoln, look for a car through private sale, used car lots always rip you new holes when they're trying to sell cars, and i don't know if its true, but lots of the used lots get their cars from auctions, sometimes you get lucky but not always |

A private sale isn't 100% either. I bought a truck last year this time, turns out the frame was rusted through pretty good.
When buying used go over it with a fine tooth comb. I'm happy with my current used, it belonged to my Grandfather, so I know exactly how it was driven, where and everything that's wrong with it.
I've had 9 cars, only 1 was new. Just be cautious, don't be impulsive and look over whatever used your thinking of getting. Dealerships can be good, the bigger dealerships cause you can talk them in a warranty of some sort. My dad's done it, like a 30 day money back of something major major happens, like the engine blows, tranny siezes, car splits in two, etc. |

I find the best time to buy cars is Jan or Feb privately..... no GST and I watch and see cars cheaper.... and if you are patient and find someone in a financial bind..... you can get a good buy......
Now some can't wait for the best time ( I call it being broke time - Jan/Feb ) .... I just thought I would mention it....
Just spend $50-$75 getting it checked out if it is over 2-3 years old...
When I sell a car.... I get Fastech to do a mech. report..... and it always helps it sell faster..... saves a few people trying to get it done themselves.... and the odd may want their own report .... but I have never had that issue. |
