Exact rim size - Click HERE for Original Thread

Over winter I was looking to get some nice rims for the Z and was wondering what size do I go with in the front? I was looking into getting the Volk SF Challenge rims. So I was going to get 18x10" but is that size for all four or just for the back:confused: if not what size do i order the front rims?

thanks,
Edwin

Ok. I was looking into getting some rims as well.

It's not just the wheel width & height, but it's also the offset that you need to be concerned about.

The most informative page I found was this:

18x10 will not fit.

Here's a few acceptable choices for a front aftermarket rim: 17x8, 17x9, 18x8.5, and maybe 18x9 (can't remember offhand).

But MixMan is correct, proper offset selection is also key.

Yeah, I am going to try to keep as close to stock wheel offsets as possible.

Stock offset on the front is +45 mm and rear is +35 mm.

The reason for this is to avoid "tramlining".

I am thinking of going 18 x 8 in the front and 18 x 9 in the rear.

Take the case of the TSW Catalunya (one of the rims I am considering),

I can get 18 x 8 with an offset of +40 mm for the front and 18 x 9 with an offset of +35 for the rear.

Basically, if you stick to the size and offset ranges given in the summary of that twinturbo link I posted, you should be safe.

BTW, any other suggestions of wheel manufacturer's to look at besides Volk and TSW.

hmm...I think SSR was one of the good ones.

ok well I found some rims I really like and was wondering if I'll be fine with these sizes. (I read the above link but i'm confussed a little)

ok well for the front I found the rims in the following size for the front of the Z, all 18 inches:

5x114+38 and 5x114+43 which should I go with in the front? i don't want to have any issues with the rims what so ever.

and for the back:

5x114+35 so i know I'm good wit the back rims but unsure with the front two.

any help is greatly appreciated. :)

It really depends on width as well.

The 5 x 114.3 that you talk about is the bolt pattern. This is the correct bolt pattern for the 300ZX.

The +35, +43, +38 is the offset. However, you also need to know the width of the wheel.

If I were you, don't risk it on something as expensive as wheels. Go to a good tire/wheel shop and they can assist you.

I can recommend Fastech on the southside. Many people I know have gone there and had great service. Plus, they are also a Z car club sponsor.

I will probably be seeing them soon myself to get some rubber for the wheels I bought back in December. Plus, I also have a slight issue where my front wheel studs aren't long enough for my new wheels. And my rear rim is awfully close to the spring so I am not sure how wide of a tire I can use.

Take the info on the specific rims you're intrested and go on tt.net. Other factors come into play with respect to offset such as the spoke design of specific rim designs. (eg. Some rims of a given offset just won't otherwise work because the way the spokes are shaped -- they end up interfering with the front calipers). The easiest thing for you to do is look to see if you can find Z owners that are actually using the rims you're interested in. (or conversely if they're not you may find someone that tried and failed to get the rim you're looking at to fit). Either way, the info is probably there...
