| Definetly a fun hobby mark. I love the acoustic. |

| I can play a couple chords. I pretty much just learn one song at a time from a tab. It takes me a while, but I can learn most basic songs. |

Cool guys :) I play by ear what catches my ear I play lol. I can use a tuner machine cus Im tecnologically retarded but I can tune by memory and vibrations.
I play Acoustics (Classical , Standard acoustic , 12 string , acoustic bass) Electric (Low frett , High action , 12 string ) Ive played pretty much every style of guitar there is even a rare 8 string Ibenez. My faveroute Guitar is a ooooold L6 Gibson , the action is almost non existant and soooo smooth.
I pretty much can play anything with strings , Mandolin , Lyre , Lute , Violin , Uke's , Banjo , Dalsymer , auto harp I dunno like I said I could figure out something on them. Now bein good is a different story lmao!
My style is wierd tho I gotta mixture of Rock , Blues , Spanish , CLassical , Metal and my own. I play low chord leads  its pretty out of whack lol.
Playing guitar is like the only way I can do mathematics!?! I can count really fast have fast timing and time my rythem by numbers its strange to say the least. I was better at guitar when I was younger and more enthusiastic but now Im kinda getting back into it. I use my gf learning acoustic she stole from a guitar shop years ago its pretty damn basic and missing several fretts compared to a standard acoustic.
You guys having fun with those twanger thangs?
:D Its addictive isnt it? |

I play an accoustic electric FX-310 Yamaha and a Fender Jazz Master bass. When I can, anyway. I come from a musical family, so whenever we get together, the instruments and pipes come out to play (though I don't sing while playing bass. It's like playing ping-pong and pinball at the same time).

I have this old Fender Accoustic that I'm rebuilding/refinishing for Ange. She's a southpaw and wants to learn, but I'm not willing to string mine left for her. I can't teach her without my own guitar anyway, so until she decides she wants to buy one, or try playing right, she has to wait until I get to this.

She won't buy anything big until she gets lasic surgery. Right now her glasses are rusting away on the bottom of the Straight of Georgia (wind tore them off her face on the ferry back from Vancougar Island), and she's stuck using her old prescription glasses.
Thanks for the offer though.
And post pics, people. |

Nobody ever taught me , Im impatient to learn like I got reading music and Tabs ADD and when somebody tries to explain how to play a song I get frustrated :( something I could never get over damn..........

I have had my guitar for 5 years, but I have only got maybe 10 hours behind it :dunno: I never got huge into it...I have the Guitar Port thing for PC, so I can download tons of tab...I am also pretty good at matching notes just from listening...but i cant seem to get my fingers to move quite fast enough, and my carpeltunnel from to much computer kinda screws me up too.
I would love to just sit back and jam, but I gotta get my fingers and hands able to move like they need to...so many hobbies so little time. |

I've played for a while. Got a few Warlocks (Platnium and a neck-through NJ) and the 8-ball Mustaine series neck-through ESP DV8. Play Bass too, got a cheap Vantage 4-string and a fretless 5-string Brice. Recently picked up a Fender MetalHead cab with a Line6 HD147, I like them together. Got the requisite Marshall 100watt for a practice amp. Got a fairly decent set of drums too, Mapex with all Sabian cymbols and a decent double-kick.
Was playing with a local older/tamer-metal band (disturbed, metallica, megadeth, etc) but it just wasn't working out for whatever reason and I want to play newer/harder metal anyway so I've just been playing on my own for the past few months. |

Oh and I play Metal too Im not good at it but I play some older shit too.

| Yo I play. I got a bunch of guitars... Fender acoustic, Norman Acoustic, Fender strat, and my favorite my Gibson Les Paul. Gotta love gibson. |
|
|
| Markgase2000 |
Gibson Rules! I love Gibson action the best.
My fave Gibson of all time is the L6 Deluxe.
I played many Les Pauls I really enjoy them. I like nighthawks and flying V's too. I played several Gibson acoustics aswell there alright again love the action. Ill make a attempt to get a gibson clip one of these days :) oh the days of Megadeth and the days of Mustane Metallica. I was never good at playing those tunes tho lol. |
|
|
| motorwerks |
| Yeah, its hard to beat the action on Gibsons! They almost play themselves...:p |
|
|
| Markgase2000 |
| You can pretty much just breath on the strings and play a chord lol! The frets on my Paps L6 are so low they look like there just painted on lol. |

The smoothest action I've ever played was on my brothers Classical (nylon EAD, steel GBE). It has a neck about 30% wider, and the action is incredibly light, even on the steel strings. It's a Yamaha of some sort.
It's not this one (google images), but it's pretty much identical.

That was my first guitar! I swear it's the same one. I still have it. Yamaha of some sort, YH1 or something like that. It plays great if you aren't going to be playing too fast, otherwise the wide neck gives me finger cramps.
Really shouldn't be using steel strings on it, it's a classical and was meant for nylons. Someone borrowed it from me once and put steels on it and it was messed up. Took a good 6 months of relaxing the neck in a humid room to bring it back.
Really technically, you should play it like a cello (resting on your lap). :) |
|
|
| motorwerks |
| Those classicals are pretty awesome. Fun to play if you can get your fingers to reach the wide neck. I have a classical guitar too, forgot to mention it. After I play it for a while I go back to the les and feel like my hands gonna break the neck right off. Such a difference. And those steel wrapped nylon strings sound good. nice guitar. |

| I thought I had a picture of mine on here but i can't find it. I just bought it this summer, it's a fender. I think it might just be a beginner one. I got it used so I thought what they hell. The only thing is I have been meaning to take lessons as I have never played a musical anything. Anybody know where to take good lessons, I need them to be flexible (as I work a lot out of town). I would like to learn the basics of reading music and how to pick up on songs. I think once I get going this will be a really fun hobby. |

Good attitude man :)
Fenders are nice guitars not too shabby if I do say so myself.
My First Guitar was a Series A , it wieghed a ton but it was a cool looking not so bad sounding guitar good for learning. I sold it for beer tho.
I love Classical guitars Im like speedy the mouse on the cartoons with them. Nylon strings are nice I pluck the living hel out them till the cows come home. I love playing my made up spanish type stuff on them.
Lessons eh? Well down 50th street I saw a sign on the side of the highway that said guitar lessons with a phone # on it. If you pass by take down the number it couldnt hurt. |
|
|
| oldraven |
It's probably a Fender Squire (Made in Japan/Korea, something like that) they're great for learning, and cheap, so if you decide it's not your thing, you aren't out a whole lot of money. But if it is your thing, move up to a Mexican or USA Stratocaster, or Tellecaster (if you like playing blues).
My Jazz is a Mexican, and my brother has an American Strat. Very nice unit. His son plays on a Squire Strat though. |

I personally dont suggest anybody buy a guitar without finding the action they play best. Some people prefer High action some like in the middle and some like a low action. Play around in guitar stores and figure it out the one you are most comfortable with will make a day and night difference.
For us who have figured it out what we prefer alls we gotta do is sit back and enjoy. I dont mind playin different types of action for different moods Im in. But low action is my preffered. |
|
|
| oldraven |
Actually, when learning, the lightest action the better. Newbies don't like playing if their fingers are bleeding all the time, and will most times give up before they can build calouses that can handle the heavy action.
A tip for new players, dip your fingers in vinegar (and dab them off on a towel) when playing. It doesn't relieve much pain, but it does help the calouses grow quicker. |
|
|
| motorwerks |
| Is that true? the vinegar trick? I have never heard of that. I bet it gums up your strings pretty quick. Speaking of strings, what kind do you guys play? If you haven't tried elixers (sp?) do so now! Even though they cost 20 bucks they sound amazing twice as long as other strings. Completely worth every cent... imop. They are especially awesome on acoustics (mediums are best). |
|
|
| oldraven |
I can't give you any scientific data, but I know it helped with me. :D And you dry your fingers before putting them to the strings. ;) Also, vinegar wouldn't gum up the strings. If anything, they'd clean them up a bit. But I don't advise playing with wet fingers. Just soak them in a little dish for a few seconds, wipe them off, and play away.
I use D'addario strings for my Bass (XL Nickel Round Wound). Dean Markly on the Accoustic. :) |
|
|
| motorwerks |
| Yah I guess I'm a little over protective of my guitar. I pretty much disinfect my hands before playing! Then I realized that vinegar is pretty clean! haha I should try it as my calouses are pretty much gone now... I have let the guitars sit too long!!! They feel neglected i bet... |
|
|
| Markgase2000 |
Hmmm I never really thought about my fingers calouses before well not that I can remember. Its my finger nails that affect me. I always go to a guitar when my finger nails are long and it affects my stabillity on the fretts. I have busted up hands too so I cant play as steady as I used to.
What do you guys think of pedals and amps? I seen a Marshall in ravens pic there nice amps. I love peavy amps they sound nice too. My fave amps are old tube amps.
I dont fiddle too much with pedals but my brother and my dad sure like to. My brother has a whole bunch with a couple amps for his guitars. |
|
|
| oldraven |
I wish that Marshal was mine. :P That's actually S2KPWR's amp. I use a little Epiphone practice amp (10").
And yes, old tube amps are the best. My father has a monstrous old stage Traynor with a single 15". That thing would blow the windows out of the house, I'm sure. |
|
|
| motorwerks |
| I have a roland vg-8 guitar processor... so it basically lets me chose any guitar, in any tuning i want, with any amp i want. You can even get creative and change where the microphone picks up the amp to give a different sound! So I usually just use headphones.:dunno: But its true, NOTHING can beat those older tube amps. My guitar teacher (good friend of mine) had a marshall stack. Incredible! |
|

| I guess they were ok. Not my favorite band though. And I hated their newest cd! What were they thinking???:dunno: |
|
|
| Markgase2000 |
I dunno I didnt mind it. They are sorta still evolving you know. They started out playing there own tunes cus they dont know how to play other bands tunes.
I like stuff from BLS , Down , and I really like Dime bags licks RIP Darrel. |

I have played for years and years now, maybe since 1990 or so. Got myself a few guitars
'97 American Strat, Fender of the year
'78 Regal Acoustic
'58 Martin Archtop
and a '99 LTD Ed Les Paul
quite fun all of them, that guitar lick back a couple of pages was awesome. |
