Any non-OEM exhaust is illegal according to provincial law. I always keep the noise down when I notice police. |

That thread isn't too helpful, the docket number is invalid. Does anyone have any solid info? |

| I got the same ticket too a few weeks ago. Now I've got a question. Would it be wise, or suggested, to go to court to fight the ticket and maybe get it reduced by a few bucks, all the while, missing a few hours or more or less of work over this? The end savings(if it were to get reduced) would not equal the lost pay in my view. What would anybody suggest? Does this type of ticket get reported, or does it show up on your record, and as a result, does your insurance go up? I'm fairly new to alberta insurance/licensing(i'm from manitoba). |

if your insurance co finds out that you got a ticket and was guilty, they'll hunt you down and rape your bank account. having the fine knocked down is admitting guilt to something lesser, but it's still guilt, and the insurance co will eat it right up. having the ticket thrown out will prove that you were not guilty of anything(you aren't) and is the best route.
docket numbers should be reserachable somehow aren't they?
that would be really helpful right about now... |

| You can let your insurance company know about anything aftermarket (wheels, exhaust, FMIC, turbo, etc...) and they will cover it... for a price. You gotta ask yourself if it's worth it to risk damaging the stuff or to take the insurance hike. |

| I always thought the vehicle equipment tickets didn't do anything to your driving or insurance record, long story short you're just out however much the ticket costs... Anybody know for sure? |

I believe the relevant section of law is:
(4) No person shall drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled by
an internal combustion engine equipped with a muffler, the exhaust outlet of which has been opened or widened.
As far as I read it, It doesn't say anything about you not being allowed to exchange your factory muffler for an aftermarket one. It just says that you can't open or widen the exhaust outlet of your muffler. I would argue that if you purchased an aftermarket exhaust system pre-built and _didn't_ open nor widen the exhaust outlet of the muffler that you aren't in violation of this law. |

cops only car if your car is loud and disguting like
"BAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
you could have a huge muffler tip and if it was quiet i dont think the cops would car |

Quite the opposite, really.
There was construction in my neighbourhood, so I decided to take the long way around to avoid the hacked up roads. I passed by a safety/child seat checkstop, and they pulled me over.
They tried to give me a tint ticket too, but I had to show him that my front windows have only the factory tint.
Now who says the cops aren't in it for the cash cow? :asshole:  |
