i dont think it looks too bad, kind of a clash between a 350z, g35, some sort of cadillac, and then they slapped gtr emblems on it, but i like it..

<yawn> new japanese cars just...i don't know but that skyline doesn't do it for me, I would rather have an r32.:dunno: I'm an 80's car type guy though.

oldraven
That's downright beautiful. I'm glad Renault didn't get a hand in this.

One of my favorite features is they only have one GT-R emblem (other than the plate). That's just tasteful. I'm sure it'll multiply by the time it hits dealers.

SpecV_Ryder2
the back end of it reminds me the back of a Cobalt(lights and the shape of the backend)..looks alright, but ild rather have the Z-Tuned R34 anyday.

lilweiner
I dont like it at all, ass end looks like a cobalt... and doesnt really hit the spot with me. i dunno, not a big fan of it.. I'm kind of dissapointed.

So how was the ass end suposed to look like......considering the cobalt copied nissan. Lights are one of the key defining features on a car, so when all the GTRs have dual taillights, what would you expect nissan to do with this one.....square ones.....

What are you talking about GM would never do that!
*cough*impala*cough*
GM would also NEVER make the Grand Am tail lights look like S15 tail lights.

youngbex
i dont like it, all new cars are so ummmm "star ship enterprise" style i like the mid 80's to mid-high 90's sports car like the FC rx-7's and R32-34 skylines

lilweiner
stupid GM.... cobalts are so gay.... I'm not a big fan of them, at all.... the only cars that should have circle tail lights are FD3S,MKIV supra, Skyline , and Corvette... i mean there are prolly a million other cars with circle tailights... but those are the only non exoticsportscars that should bare them.

I highly doubt GM was copying Nissan with the taillights of the Cobalt. More like they were made like that to imitate the Corvette taillights. And I really don't think Nissan was the first company ever to use 4 round taillights.

And no one ever outright copies. They will be lots of cars that have some features that look similar but there is only so many ways they can make things look. That is about as stupid as saying Ford and GM were building cars before and Japanese companies so those lazy people just copied their idea of building a car. How unoriginal. lol

Anyway, on topic I think the car looks a little funny from some angles but overall it is a great looking car and will no doubt have even more impressive specs to go with the looks.

oldraven
Chev has been using round tail lights on their cars since the early 60's, long before Datsun even thought about a sports car.

But still, every modern car can be almost directly cut and pasted from past models from all over the world. It's the combination that matters. This is a winning combo, IMO. I'm just glad it's not an obvious G35/350Z with a beard.

That C-pillar is giving me a headache though.

dance_of_curse
the first skyline was made by prince motor company in 1957 called the ALSI - 1....the first 4 round tail lights for the skyline were on the S50-E in 1963:thumbup: nissan bought prince in the late 1960's and then the skyline was named the nissan skyline not the prince skyline and in 1968 the nissan skyline gtr was released:thumbup:

motorwerks
Raven's right. You can cut and paste parts from any car and make almost any other car. This new skyline looks pretty sweet... except I don't love the front. Anyone know the specs on it? just for curiosity cause I won't be able to afford one!! haha

Some decent info here:

http://www.modified.com/gtr

No exact specs yet because it's still a prototype. Looks like it's going to be a TT V6 though.. :thumbdown No inline 6! They better change that before it goes into production!

luder
I don't know, I can imagine that the twin turbo v6 will make A LOT of power, and sound meaner than all hell. 450 hp, jesus.......

arabian_ryda
the front end is hidious. the windsheild is way to big and the small window shape getting bigger from the back forward is nasty. the rear end is pure art though.

motorwerks
thats pretty sweet. Seven speed tranny is cool, haha thanks for the link!!

oh2one8tee
not really a fan... i guess i just loved the last gen too much... too "futuristic".... i'd LOVE to see the engine bay though....

Inzane
Not bad.. not bad...

Can't stand the naked carbon fiber look though. If the CF is functional and Nissan put it there for weight savings, great! But paint it BODY COLOR goddammit!!

Unfortunately the days of unique engines are over, until the market picks up again. The GT-R will not have an inline six, because nothing else in Nissan's lineup has a inline six. It will be a derivative of the VQ35, and it would not surprise me to see it naturally aspirated as turbochargers are very costly for manufacturers to include on engines.

The new Supra ( :fingersx: there will be one) will not have an inline six, it will be a V6. It will not have turbocharger(s) either, as the power goal will be between 300 and 400 bhp, which can be achieved through thorough design and trick valving (VVTL-I, or the next gen of it). It will likely retain much of the current Toyota V6 geometry so that existing production lines can be modified/retrofitted to produce the new engines at minimal cost.

I also think that Mazda will try to attack another part of the market with a rotary-powered car - it's simply too expensive to have an entire engine plant dedicated to produce engines for a single model which does not cater to a large part of the market. It could be they go after the XRS/Sentra SER/SIR part of the market, hopefully with a rear-drive well-priced basic road car.

Ummm... doesnt the new GT-R have twin garretts? I think its turbo...

I cant wait to see more of this car. Granted i love the r33 or r34 more but i think this is a nice new design and i love how Nissan still kept the bold stylin lines that the skyline typicals boasts. I love the tail lights cause that just sums up a skyline rear, that being said it does look a bit more cobalt ish but meh, its a skyline not a cobalt so whatever.

Do i like the old style better, Yes. But by the time ican get my hands on a 15 year old r34 nismo , ill be able to sell my soul for a new one. As long as we get it in canada before waitin 15 years im a huge fan .

On the contrary, I've always thought R32, R33 and R34 Skylines are rather bland and boring style wise. If anything this new concept is more *interesting* to look at, even if its not totally pleasing at all angles.

ehos
G35 meets 06 Eclipse.

I thought the front end of the new Eclipse was contrived, but this is just over the top. I like how outlandish it looks.

(Still prefer the understated great looks of the G35 though).

I thought it was still in concept phase, I was mistaken. The trend though will be for manufacturers to move towards multi-platform engines (the VQ is in much of Nissan's lineup) and less expensive setups.

DomesticDrifter
i think i read on some nissan fourm somewhere that it was going to be a 3.7L VQ series engine with tiwn turbochargers/intercoolers, much like the tiwn turbo set up that was used in a G35 on the nurburgring in a nissan drive train development test a few months ago. its going to be one amazing car and you know nissan won't ruin the GT-R brand with a car anything short of amazing.

Exactly. They need to get rid of the darker shite on the front. Either paint it silver or the rest of the car black. As a solid colour I think it would look damn sharp!

It'll be a V6, there's no doubt of that, but it will be boosted. If they go as far as using round tails to bring back some of the cult features, I can guarantee they will have a turbo, or even supercharger, on the 3.5.

luder
3.7L v6 tt that gets 40 mpg?

I think so.

Me thinks they quoted most specs are still in the process. Im not sure if they decided a drivetrain for em yet. Keep looking they will put up that info as soon as they get it all together or so they say.......

zerro
man thats a sexy car

to me the front side looks like an rx8 and the rear looks likean ferrarl...best of both worlds and u get an reallly nice car

 nissan

Here's the article from Autoweek.

lots of people dont like the look of the newer gen of cars, but if the styles didn't change, cars would get pretty predictable and boring... i am sure the car will grow on everyone over time. specially when we see them driving around :)

midnite
anyone know if they are destined for canada? the article says they will be made available for the american market.

Kinda like this?

Hot_Wheelz
^^^^^^^ WOW yea that looks pimp all one color.. even the whole car in black i think would look pretty sexy.

as for availibilty in canada.. in the videos on www.gtrproto.com he does say that the car is going to be made to ship Globally ... so i wouldn't worry about it Not coming to canada.. but lets wait and see i suppose.

qualthar
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to come to Canada. We're usually a year or so behind the US when it comes to getting cool cars :p
