TOEFL, anyone? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Miss Nikki Sixx
TOEFL- Test of English as a Foreign Language.

Has anyone written, or know someone who has written this exam? I have a couple questions:

- What is this exam like to write
- How 'difficult' is it to score well on the exam
- What are tips for studying *** Most important question for me***

Essentially, I am wondering what the best study material is. I went to the bookstore looking for TOEFL-Prep guides. There is so much variety! Books with practice exams... books with CDs/tapes... All the books also say "for writing the PBT or CBT" (paper/computer based test)

Now, I was just visiting TOEFL website and it looks like those formats are done and over with. Now the TOEFL will be administered in an IBT! (Internet based test).

Help!

What are you worried about? Your written English skills are better than 90% of the people who were born here.

Qoo
it is not hard, I got a 227 (237 to get into UofA)
it was 1998 when I took the test, they test you on 4 area. (if they didn't change the style)
Reading, Writing, Listening, Grammar.

suggestion? just do some simulated test. any book is about the same.

anyways, after you've read my post and see my engrish, you know you'll do fine.

I have no idea what you're worried about. You should easily pass this test hands down.

no preocupe!

Judging my MNS's fine command of the English language, I don't think she's asking for herself.

Seems the exam format has changed now. It still has the writing, listening, and reading but instead of grammer, which will be tested thoughout, there is a speaking section.

Right, the exam is not for myself (phew). It is for my mom! She speaks and understands english quite well, but the writing/grammer.... eeee... I'm not too sure. So, that was why I wanted to know about prep material. Likewise, with the change to internet based testing....

I'm assuming Qoo, that you wrote it in a paper-based format? I was curious, dealing with the computer/internet exams, just how much computer knowledge or comfort would be a factor. Even as simple as using a keyboard efficiently. Like, how would the written component feel for someone with a little less typing skill?

mire s2000_rider: no me olvide mandarte esa canciones, pues estoy un pocito ocupada... discupla!

hehe, Insomniac, there is a reason those translators suck... know one would actually say what you are trying to say like that.
