Turbo kit for the miata..which one though? - Click HERE for Original Thread

dc2696
So I have a few chocies on turbo kits aside form a new one, any opinions,

1.turbo number 1

-has alittle more then I need parts but i imagine i could just sell them afterwards(ie 1L injectors=useless on my car).

2.-turbo number 2

-kinda hesitant about a custom kit like this, intercooler will prolly be to small but its very cheap, only will be able to run 8 or so psi though.

3.turbo number 3

-this one I'm kinda leaning towards, nice boost levels, clean kit, nice turbo, but more expensive then the rest.

What I'm looking for: I just want a few psi so I can get the car moving alittle quicker, I'm not looking for a ton of boost so i can drag race, i want it to be responsive but not choke out at 7500rpm, just need something to spin the tires when drifting season comes again, I'm not in a rush to buy anything right now but it would be nice to get sooner then later.

ur just sayin that so I still wouldn't be able to keep up with that fucking daytona, but if I got the 16psi kit bye bye Ryan hahahaha j/k, true enough but I don't want some shitty thrown together kit thats gonna bust in two days.

how about option 4. you be a real man and build the perfect
set-up for the red devil.

I was thinking about that aswell, that is another considerable option.

K turbo number 2 has alittle bit of shaft play, and a tiny intercooler, how bad is shaft play and how much until it becomes a problem?

come on where are all the turbo guys when u need them???:dunno:

I'd be wary of the one with shaft play, if its very minor and you're only running low boost it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but the more boost you run and the more shaft play there is the higher the chance you'll blow the turbo..

ask Mike (GOT_BOOST) he know all about blowing turbos  blew his first one, bought a used higher milage turbo with shaft play, has a boost leak so it was running several psi higher than it should have been, blew it within a week I believe.

Personally I wouldn't even buy a kit, I'd do research on each component and get exactly what I want, like I'm doing on my own car.

can your stock ECU handle larger injectors? if not, you're gonna need a rising rate fuel pressure regulator or somthing to compensate for the fact when you do get bigger injectors. or you could go all out and go stand alone with Megasquirt or something
 (or a piggyback system like an SAFC-II)

depending how much money you want to spend, you could look at a ball bearing turbo, you can run a bigger turbo without having the problem of long spool up times. they don't come cheap though. however this is a miata, so unless somebody makes a turbo manifold you're gonna need to get one custom made regardless

if you do get a kit though, I'd go with the first one, $700 for a haltech standalone with wiring harness is pretty damn good, and I'd get rid of the injectors right away (1000cc in a miata? wtf??)

There are lots of turbocharged miatas in the Wild Rose Miata Club.

Why don't you hit up MX-5 Miata Guy in the Miata Club club zone on here? He might be able to point you in the right direction.

I've consulated Richard and the wild rose clubalready (mx-5 miata guy) I got the number 2 kit down to 650american so ithink I'll be picking this one up, I'm not looking to spend alot here on a great turbo set-up I just want a few psi for now, thanx for your opinion sguys and the shaft play apparently is less then 1cm of movement.
