Celica Supra - Click HERE for Original Thread

So im thinking of picking up an 83' celica supra..everything runs fine.....except one thing..
the heater is blowing...but nothing is actually coming out of the vents.
also it doesnt tell me the temp of my engine either, so im thinking, a complete flush, and a new thermostat might fix the problems?

if its not telling you the temp its the temp sensor not the thermostat, and if its not blowing out of the vents there blocked or something, and how much are you paying for the car?

charlieboi
500...wat can be blocking the heat? nothing blows out at all from any vents....and thats the one thing i need

If it's anything like my AE86, there should be the heater fan ratcage under/behind the glove box. Take the casing around it off (three screws) and test the fan, If you hear something, and the fan is not turning, then the brushes on the motor are toast. If the fan turns, pull it out (shut it off first!) and check to see that the directing gate works properly (located right behind the dash, next to the firewall). I recall the gears, and pulleys for the heat selector switches were made of plastic and became VERY brittle over time. If you move the heat positioning switch (defrost/panel/floor/panel and floor, etc) it should move the large gate. If the large gate don't move, your gears in the panel are broken. In that case, damn near hard to replace, been there, done that, got mad about it, left it...

Well I hope that helps. That was my experience. If you car is not anything like that, I'm sure you can image the rest.

see if the valve on the firewall is opening. thats a common reason for it to stop blowing hot air. easy way to check is to put the heater on full at full temp and check if the hose before and after the valve are both warm.

my other suggestion would be to put your questions on celicasupra.com cuz you will have more knowledgable people to answer your questions.

There is also a local supra club too at http://www.supraclub.ca/

what part of the city are you in? i could take a look at it if your unsure, i have been working on my 82 supras for 5 years or so.

Im by the south but i decided not to get it...didnt wanna go through the hassle and get it fixed . SO back to looking for a winter beater :(

Charles_00civic
want a winter beater? get a 92 or so grand am / prix from canada trader. Good winter cars. Or get a A-TEAM van type thing.
