REFLUX
QTec

Of course it will be loud as fuck when opened, but who cares when you are hauling ass. Normal driving, it will be quieter than most cars on the street!

what do you guys think?

Heck just put a big mother of an external waste gate dumping into your neighbor's ear on your car.

That way any and all exhaust back pressure just gets dumped out your fender area hopfully with 5 foot flames to boot.

The only time you need to worry about exhaust pressure is when your foot is into it and by chance thats the only time a waste gate should open anyways.
(That is if you picked the right stage and A/R for the turbine side)

Certainly would be nice to have.

v8slayer: sorry but i'm not following what you're saying

Guess you aren't a turbo man. :D

REFLUX
Pearly: i have a pretty good idea of what he's saying, but i jus dont see how that relates to the exhaust system

correct me if im' wrong but:
wastegate lets out the exhaust to control levels of boost
but if you have a huge mofo of a WG it could let out too much boost creating some lag
this exhaust bypass is after the turbo lettin you keep your stock exhaust but also lettin you have the option of a part time straight pipe

:dunno:

I've seen this done before. Actually, a member of the Toronto Prelude Club actually made a custom one very similar to this Q-TEC.

Yeah, but you'll be stopped by the cops pretty fast with this setup. :)
This Q-TEC has the advantage of keeping your muffler in the loop when you're on the street, and you can switch to dumping to the atmosphere at the track easily.

In cabin adjustable cutouts have been around for while. They used to be cable activated, with the handle labelled "hood" :D

Officer: "why do you have two hood release's in your car"
Ricer: " it's a mid-engine car, this way it allows access from the front and the back ;) "

REFLUX
hahaha alrite well then let me ask you this
would the exhaust cutout i posted up be able to handle the temperatures of a rotary exhaust?
& can you "activate" them via a switch instead of a pully-handle?

Pro Drag
The cutout you posted up has stainless steel components where they matter the most, so it SHOULD be able to handle the 1700-2000 F temperatures of a WOT rotary exhaust.
The aluminum body MIGHT disfigure under prolonged heat loads though.
It depends on placement of the cutout, naturally you want it as close to the exhaust collector as possible for maximum effect. Further downstream you go, cooler the EGT's get.

REFLUX
wat about say....around the midpipe section
i think right after the downpipe would b a good spot but unless i put on a straight pipe...exhaust gases mite heat up the underside of the car....

The only time the waste gate opens is when your pretty well at full boost if its set up right.

So how does a waste gate being open at the proper time create lag?

My point is you only need or have to dump exhaust pressure when your hammering on it.

& that's the point of having this exhaust cutout :D

So go with the waste gate if your turbo and the cut out if your not.

It's all good.

how much if any would this increase your horsepower?

jus depends on the car

think of this as a method to have a straightpipe exhaust when you want/need it
