hey all...ok well i was coming from whyte ave. and calgary trail and there was a laser radar speed trap set up a few blocks from there, and well its was a 50 zone and i got clocked at 82....194 dollars...with i believe 2 or 3 demerits not sure......i dont have a problem paying the fine but i now have 0 demerits on my licence with 2.5 years driving and i dont want it to change, lol,...so what can i do to make the demerits go away with paying the ticket also of course...thanks. and what do you think it will cost me?
I was going 70 in the 50km/h zone. First ticket where I've gotten demerits; I've only had 1 photo radar for speeding so far. I'm not under GDL and have been driving for 6 years.
Anyway, I was talking to the officer, he was understanding, and I asked him how the 3 demerits I'll get can be removed. He said that if I stay clean with no more demerits added for a whole year, then the 3 demerits will be removed. Is this true?
Also, does it cost a lot to get a driver's abstract for myself? I would like to check a year from now to see if my 3 demerits are removed.
Edit: I knew I should've ridden my bike today!!!! |

| With my ticket the demerits got removed after 2 years but it still states the offence on your abstract for another year.(3 years) I beleive thats how it was 2 and 3 years. I might have them reverseb but I'm pretty sure thats it. |

For the record:
Demerits stay on your driving record for TWO years from the date of conviction.
Tickets, accidents, and other items on your record are visible to your insurance company for THREE years from the date of conviction.
Taking an AMA Safe Driving Course (or other) will remove TWO demerits, but can only be taken once per year. |

| My understanding of the defensive driving course is that it removes up to 3 demerits and can be used a maximum once every 2 years. |
