ERC Dirt Autoslalom, Nov 13th - Click HERE for Original Thread

rexxrally
The next Edmonton Rally Club Dirt Autoslalom will be Sunday Nov 13th at Bud Park in Nisku. It's just like a regular autoslalom (start/stop box, pylons, one-car-at-a-time-against-the-clock) except that's it held on a dirt/gravel lot.

Registration ($30 to ASN-affiliated club members, $50 to general public) and Scrutineering will begin at 10AM and go until 11AM (or 11:30 if necessary). Driver's meeting and first car out will be shortly thereafter.

We will be working on the basis of a minimum 4 runs per competitor, and fun runs after that. Best 3 runs will be totalled to determine the class winners (FWD, RWD, AWD), so consistency is key. Last event had a 2.2km course, and this event should be similar.

Stainless
$50  How many hundreds of dollars does a membership cost with you guys to make the member/non-member difference $20.

I was looking forward to some of your events this winter, but even if I purchased a membership, $30 is a lot for the Bud Park gravel lot.

rexxrally
Our membership is $50 per calendar year.
And yeah, $30 is a lot of money, but so is the insurance we have to buy on the event, and most especially, so is the rental we have to pay on the Bud Park lot. I don't think $30 is any more than the cost of anybody else's autoslalom events........

turbomike
We dont have high car counts at are events so that = more cost to a few drivers... Dirt slaloms have a dangerous image around them so we need to pay for track rental, ambulance, and insurance. We start every event in the hole hopeing that we get enough drivers to cover our costs... If you do decide to come out you get to run a 3 km track with aprox 3 min of driving per run and 4-6 runs a day plus bonus events. Our event also give out awards. I hope that helps.

THUD
I have never run the bud park lot..and barley member what it looks like with no cars, sooooo How rough is it?...what should I set my car up like....is it smooth or whould I be prepard to put skid plates on my car.
If it's not to rough I may jump in but I don't wann really beat the crap outta it, I did one in calgary and man it was not very smooth at all.

rexxrally
I don't like to give you an absolute answer, since what appears to me to be smooth may be really rough to someone else. Personally, I don't feel the need to run a skid plate on my Neon.

You're welcome to come out, take a look, have a run around the parking lot and decide for yourself. If you think it's too rough, you just park it. If you think it's smooth enough, you pay your entry fee and compete. Sound fair?

driftr420
i thnik it's time to put one of our rally beaters out there.

turbomike
Our first event out there was rough... We used the whole field. Now we just use the gravel parking lot and for the most part it is smooth. that being said its not pavement ruts get formed and it is alittle rough from time to time.

We have some great door prizes donated to us for this event. Thanks to "R&T NETWORK SOLUTIONS LTD" for sponsoring our events this year.

So come on out and see what you got. ya its fast, fun, and cool to watch. spectators are welcome to watch for free.

super fun extra event... "RALLY THE ORGANIZERS CAR" 10 bucks a run, everyone drives my car. winner gets half the pot. and a cool trophy...

rexxrally

I think I might show up in the beater for some fun.

Prices arent bad. I know how much insurance for these events cost.

droppedatbirth

turbomike
5-10 normaly we have a total of about 15 drivers at each event.

3 classes awd fwd rwd trophies for the fastest total runs in each class.

so is there a site where i can look up what i all need to compete...i'd like to do it for fun i can guarantee i'll come in dead last :P also will the car have some rock chips and dents when its over?

rexxrally
To compete, you need a car (preferably with DURABLE winter tires, not something like Blizzaks), a SA95/SA2000/SA2005 helmet (which we have spares if you don't) and a valid driver's license. If you have a membership card to an ASN Canada FIA club, then you will get entry for $30 instead of $50, so bring that.

You might get a rock chip in your paint, but not a lot. Not anything worse than driving your car in the winter in Edmonton. I haven't gotten any rock chips in my Neon yet (knock on wood). Dents? No.

Your car needs to have good brakes, no excessive loose play in the steering wheel, good wheel bearings (do any of your tires go clunk-clunk-clunk if you grab it at the 12 o'clock position and try to shake it in and out?), good tires (no bald or bulging tires). You need to empty all the junk out of your car (no flying projectiles on the course). You need good stock seat belts. You need a driver's seat that is firmly attached to the car. You need your car battery firmly tied down under the hood. You need to make sure you have no excessive leaks under the hood (minor oil leak okay, just nothing streaming or gushing out).

the affiliated club members, does that include 780 ?

k so all i need is a helmet and to tie my battery down properly...i think the tie is just loose...

turbomike
780 is not a cert club... eg one that you pay a membership to. nascc or cscc ERC or rx7club something like that...

rexxrally
Thanks for pointing out my mistake, Mike. M helmets and 90 standard are good as well.

So, any helmet that is M or SA and 90/95/2000/2005 Snell approved is good enough for our Rallycross.

If anybody is wondering about their helmet, each manufacturer of Snell approved helmets puts a metallic reflective sticker with the standard (SA2000, for example) on the inside of the helmet under the foam padding, either at the top or around the bottom. Look behind the foam padding to see if you got one.

turbomike
so who is gona be out this weekend?

rallycrossGTX
Unfortunately, Jeff and I have some family commitments (putting in quality time now so that we can trade those brownie points for CSCC events this winter) ....so we won't be attending this Sunday, but the turnout should be the largest yet (with the AGM the previous day).....

Good luck this weekend and post up some pictures to let us know what we missed.

Mike - Gonna run the truck this time too? That was worth the entrance price last time just to witness that run........

turbomike
no i bought a new 8.1L gmc crew long box... its much to long for this stuff...

gona bring out neon number 3 and my accord

gab
good job boys, i had an absolute blast!!!

turbomike

rallycrossGTX
How did the Cossie do?

Judging from Shawn Bishop's pictures, it looked like the best turnout ever......

Mike / Dave - is the next event for Dec.26 written in stone yet?

turbomike
i think the best thing to do... we will have a vote... yep it was a great turnout... the cossy was the only car hitting 4th gear on the strait section... what a sweet ride!

Here's Shawn's photos:

Has anybody else put their photos up on the Internet yet?
Let us know where!
